PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President and Mrs. Bush and their long-time friends, former Commerce Secretary Don Evans and his wife, are spending Memorial Day weekend together at Camp David. There is speculation in the media that the President may ask Mr. Evans to become the next Treasury Secretary.

Today, the President traveled to the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, to give the commencement address to the Corps of Cadets.

SCHEDULE UPDATE: NOTE -- so far, new Press Secretary Tony Snow has not been annoucing the Week Ahead in his press briefings. Scott McClellan has stopped doing it regularly some time ago, and I can't help but wonder if it isn't due to security concerns.

_ Rwanda's President Paul Kagame will meet with President Bush in Washington May 31 for talks on development, AIDS relief, events in Sudan, and other issues.

_ President Bush will welcome President Manuel Zelaya Rosales of Honduras to the White House on June 5, 2006, to highlight the friendship and cooperation between the United States and Honduras, an important regional ally. The two leaders will discuss the expansion of free trade and economic growth, and continuing cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

_ The First Lady will speak June 6 at the first 'Helping America's Youth' regional conference, at the University Place Conference Center, Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis.

_ Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi of Japan will visit the President at the White House on June 29, 2006.

_ President Bush will welcome Prime Minister Harper of Canada to the White House on July 6, 2006.

Would never hate you, snugs. :) Let's face it, that's a funny/sad photo. The next one in that series is very nice, too. GWB scooped Barney up and kissed him.

LOL and Barney could accomadate that wish! Years ago, when macrame was the hot thing, we used to make Scotty dogs. Wish I would have kept a couple - they looked just like Barney.

I know if the CINC gave me a challenge coin, I would darned sure try and live up to the challenge. LOL

Me too. Plus, depending on its size, I'd either have it made into a pendant or mounted in a lucite paperweight to carry with me everywhere. I'd be proud of it.

For me, it'd be at the TOP (alone too) of my coin display case. And then I'd make a rule of "no touching!" hehehe

For some strange reason, they don't like military graduates to be classified as "cute". haha.

It must be an ego thing. Then again, how many people normally refer to the commander-in-chief as "cute?" (I have a feeling President Bush is an exception.)

I'd say almost every graduating class, be it high school or college does the same thing. It's the end, hard work over and it's a tradition. I have no idea where it started or why, but a graduation ceremony isn't done until the caps fly.

Wow, last year was my first year on my job. I got NO holidays off had to work every one, except Christmas, the mall was closed and Thanksgiving, same reason..or vacation time, or sick time. This year I get the holidays and one week vacation and 3 sick days...no insurance, and I'm manager of a clothing store, the company has 25 stores...thank goodness my husband has health insurance with his work.
