Lefts in eastern countries are different than lefts in West europe. I dislike commies, but Russian commies ara anti-gay, and much conservative in that view.
It is the same way in China, Belarus, Vietnam, Cuba, North Korea, and Venezuela. The party elite does not tolerate homosexuality.
Only very recently (5-15 years ago) have the communist parties and the mainstream left taken up LBGT "Rights" as an issue
