Russia to sell air defense systems to Iran

Russia's defense minister said Friday it would honor commitments to supply Iran with Tor-M1 air defense systems for use against aircraft and guided missiles.
In 2005, Russia signed a $700-million contract to supply air defense systems to Iran, Novosti reported.
The contract was signed and we need time to fulfill it, said Sergei Ivanov, defense minister of the Russian Federation.
The Tor-M1 is is a mobile missile launching system designed for operation at medium, low and very low altitudes against aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, guided missiles and other weapons. The systems include radar tracking devices and command posts. The launchers can operate whether stopped or moving. Each unit carried eight missiles and can be operated within seconds after a target is identified.
Russia has deflected criticism from the United States, maintaining that its systems are solely for self-protection.
In March President Vladimir Putin announced Russia had increased military exports to greater than $6 billion, supplying 61 countries, including China and India.
Oh no Russia's gone bad again! Oh well, we'll see if the Iranian military figures out how to use it anyways.

Russia is making hay while the sun shines, building it's treasury while selling amphibious aircraft to China, and air defense systems to Iran. Clearly, Russia is not our friend, nor will they ever be until the hammer an sickle flies over our land, too.
But the Iranian nukes and madmen they are "protecting" aren't.
Best news out of Iran in quite awhile. These are most likely the same systems that protected Saddam.
Again? That implies that there was a time that they were ever good.
Anyone out there still think Russia isn't the true enemy yet?
