Authorities in Orange County, Fla., arrested a 44-year-old woman who was apparently angry at a sheriff's helicopter flying over her house and allegedly shot fireworks at the aircraft in an effort to get it to move, according to police.

Sheriff's deputies were in an Orange County neighborhood near 36th Street searching for a car theft suspect late Thursday when they called for help from a sheriff's helicopter.

As the helicopter flew in the area, homeowner Emarjorie Thompson allegedly ran out of her house with a bottle rocket launcher, investigators said. Police said Thompson then shot bottle rockets at the aircraft.

The article said that is a felony. She "shot a deadly missile into an aircraft".

If it didn't get into the aircraft, that law can't possibly hold.

Now, she attempted to do so. That is different.

However, one can't rightfully say a bottle rocket that even the pilot said didn't jeopardize the aircraft was a "deadly missile".

Some guy shot an Albuquerque Sheriff's helicopter out of the sky last year. Fortunately the pilot was able to land it with no life threatening injuries to either of the men in it.

A "deadly missile"? C'mon, it's a bottle rocket, not a cruise missile. I'm sure that there's something a bit more appropriate with which they can charge her.

As a side note, I wonder if Police are exempt from all those noise ordinances that they like to enforce.

I'm not sure a bottle rocket would be able to fly through the turbulence beneath the helicopter, much less do any damage if it did.

Marjorie Thompson was likely annoyed by the sound of the helicopter when she fired the fireworks in the air

She looks like she could use some sleep...

Pretty stupid thing to do. I hope, though, that they merely impress upon her the stuiditiy of what she did and not throw the book at her. That as long as she is humble in recognition of her mistake.

I can imagine many people doing similar stupid things in a moment of frustration.
