Charles was able to trace his IP address around the globe, and it quickly emerged that the miscreant was Inayat Bunglawala.the offender in question

Now, that's a wanker....(which I believe is a British colloquialism for a masturbator).
To: Jameison
The stupid twit thought he could "hide" on the Internet. Guess he knows better now.

"wanker" (Is it a word? Beats me.) I am pretty sure it is a british slang word.
. So I looked it up.
.
But,
all I found was this:
.
Wanker:

They may know a lot about throat cutting but we still rule when it comes to sniper head and gut shots and precision bombs that take out scumbags in the midst of good people.

I understand how an IP address can belong to reuters.com, but how can it pinpoint the actual sender of the e-mail?

The divinity of Christ? 3/4ths or more of the US population gave that up at birth and are staying the course. We oughta be getting along just fine.
To: Jameison
This column by Bunglawala--an extraordinarily silly column, postulating that Christians and Muslims can get along if Christians just give up on the divinity of Christ--was apparently the source of the problem. Right after Muslims admit Mohamed was a murderous pedophile.

He sure isn't much to look at is he?

He looks like a nice, normal East Indian guy (FReeper Cool Guy, You still out there?)in the photo. The following is from a story about him being smeared in an odd mass email/fake news release attacking him:
"Inayat Bunglawala the spokesman of the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) was allegedly arrested in a public toilet earlier this year. It was alleged that Mr. Bunglawala propositioned a male undercover police officer while standing at a urinal. Upon making an obscene indecent proposal to the police officer, bringing back memories of the George Michael case, the officer identified himself and arrested the MCB spokesman on the spot..."
The overall article states that this dasdardly accusation is totally unfounded, but upon further surfing I'm convinced that sadly, the worst of it is true: Mr. Bungholiowa is indeed a muslim.
And he must be pretty small for him to fit in a toilet. Maybe he too will be to small to go to prison.

Reuters has responded to Mr. Johnson affirming that an employee -- not a member of the news staff -- has been suspended over the incident.
Imarat Bongwater has not been named as the culprit by Reuters.

I bet there are some people here who could make him fit in a toilet just fine.

Check out this other page:
http://commentisfree.guardian.co.uk/inayat_bunglawala/
Same format as the one linked at powerline, and it has this additional information:
"Inayat Bunglawala is media secretary of the Muslim Council of Britain."
So he's not an employee but a "guest commentator" of sorts.
There's all sorts of stuff on the web about him.

They can find out what workstation has that IP address, and at what time the email was sent. Then who was logged onto that workstation at that time was, most probably, who sent the email.
