It's the beginning of the Memorial Day weekend. We've had our silliness thread to start things off now, how about this:

Who do you think had the best cameo performance in any movie or TV show? You know, someone who had a bit part but stole the show for you.

I think I'd have to say when Sean Connery stole the show from Kevin Costner in the Sheriff of Nottingham. .... And the bad guy was ssooo much better than Kevin in that film

Umm that was Robin Hood, and Connery played King Richard, at the end during the wedding scene, and Alan Rickman played the Sheriff.

And I cannot believe that they left in Christian Slater's "*uck me he made it" line when Costner and Freeman were catipulted over the wall.

Robert Patrick also shows up as a cop in the Schwarzenegger movie "The Last Action Hero". They walk right past him, and I think Arnold does a quick take in passing.

I call bits like that "handshakes", since they're meant for people who know a bit of the filmography of the actors.

Another one like that is in "The A-Team", when Dirk Benedict is on a Hollywood back lot and walks past a guy in a cylon costume, and gives the guy a double take.

Chris Walken in "Pennies From Heaven". Who knew he was a song & dance man? He even impressed Kelly and Astaire.

In "Twin Peaks", David Lynch had almost reunited all three of the original Mod Squad.

My favorite musician cameo was on SNL. It was an "Olympia Cafe" ( "Cheeseburger. Cheeseburger" ) sketch. At the start of the sketch, the owner ( John Belushi ) immediately gives a customer from the counter the bum's rush out the door. It was Mick Jagger. The Stones were the musical guest that night.

Let's see who remembers this. There was a British comedy called "The Goodies" back in the late 60's early 70's. John Cleese had a pretty good cameo on that show. He appeared as a genie that pops out of a lamp. If I remember correctly he appears in a suit, sitting behind a desk and gives his "And now for something completely different" line. He then looks around and realizes what show he's on and yells into the camera, "KIDS STUFF!!!" and vanishes.

That was great!

It was a true cameo, too, since she wasn't on the show for most of it.

As far as movies, I liked seeing an older, more dark and cynical Molly Ringwald come in at the end of "Not Another Teen Movie."

Good evening.

My favorite is the final scene of the last Bob Newhart show where he woke up next to Suzanne Pleshette from his earlier series.

I hear a lot of people cooing over those little girls now that they've turned 18 or 20 or whatever. I don't know why. They're so pallid and skeleton-like. They look like marionettes. It's apparently appealing to a lot of men but I long for the days when curves ruled the runways.

"But I'm feeling MUCH better now."

I use that line all the time. Too bad most people don't know what I'm talking about. : )

Funny you mention that. I sometimes catch myself before quoting that little gem. I figure people will either think I'm a geek (not that I haven't already blown my cover), or that they won't remember the reference anyway.

I remember when Gerald and Betty Ford and Henry Kissinger did a cameo together on Dynasty in the '80s.

Christopher Walken in 'True Romance'- and that Fat Boy Slim music video.

Milton Burle in a music video by 'Ratt'.

Oh yeah! Bob Barker in Happy Gilmore was just classic! How about Dom Deluise as the gay director in Blazing Saddles.

Suzanne Pleshette's cameo on the last episode of the "Newhart" show, when she and Bob wake up--as though they were still on the previous "Bob Newhart Show"--and Bob says he just dreamed the whole New England thing.

The very best ending of any TV show Ever.

Also from SNL...Barbra Streisand crashing CoffeeTalk with (Mike Myers; Madonna and Roseanne Barr); and one of the best skits ever...Christopher Walken "I need more cowbell!!!"
