Russian defence minister Sergei Ivanov today reiterated Moscows commitment to supply Iran with sophisticated anti-aircraft missiles, the Interfax news agency reported.
If there are no extraordinary circumstances, it (the contract) will without doubt be fulfilled, Ivanov was quoted as saying.
Defence Ministry officials have previously said Moscow would supply 29 sophisticated Tor-M1 air defence missile systems to Iran under a 546.5m contract, according to Russian media reports.
The move was likely to upset the United States, which last month called on all countries to stop all arms exports to Iran and to end all nuclear cooperation with it to put pressure on Tehran to halt uranium enrichment activities.
Tehran insists its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes, but the United States and some of its allies suspect Iran is trying to develop weapons.
Russia is still our enemy plain and simple.
I agree 100%. They are probably laughing about our reaction over some Stoli and tonics.
They'll probably wind up getting stripped down versions that are easily destroyed or jammed by our guys............
Did anyone really believe that the 'Cold War' was over?
Sounds like a good way for Russians to take Iranian money by giving them new toys without assembly instructions (ie, an integrated air defense and air defense C4 system.... which would almost certainly have to be staffed by Russians).
The S-300 system is of greater concern to the Pentagon. It is the premier mobile ballistic/cruise missle knockdown system. It would make cruise attacks very difficult. What the newspapers will not (because they cannot) report is what is the status of Iran's quest for the S-300s.
Unless the Russians man and maintain the systems they will be useless to the Iranians.
grrrrh!!!
Ilia does it again!
"We will wild weasel them, end of story."

No way, Jose! What people are never told in that History Channel episode is that the Wild Weasels should never have existed in the first place. Because of the ridiculous "rules of engagement" we were not allowed to attack SAM sites UNTIL they were actually firing at our aircraft. The Weasels were expcted to fly out and shake their booty until the missile batteries cut loose. Only THEN were they allowed to blast them. The whole thing was a grim farce. The men who died or were captured on such missions were sacrificed to LBJ's cowardice.
Like the entire country being vaporized?
They will sell them the parts they need if they break down. The Russians are greedy just like the Chinese. Those two countries are always against sanctions for Terrorist regimes because they make tons of money selling weapons to them.
Didn't we do the same with Russia's enemies? It's just the way the world works.
Apparently, Russia believes it is more desireable to have an antagonistic foreign policy towards the West than a cooperative one, which is unfortunate since we both face a determined and deadly common enemy - islam. Putin may want to bone up on Iran and look up what religion his 'allies' belong to.
Ah yes, our good friends, the Russians. /sarc
I give up. What does that mean?
Russia's State Arms Agency, "Rosoboronexport" will sell to "any company, any country". It is their motto.
I know; -thats what they told me in Moscow last summer.
I can't argue with you because we did. It's tit for tat I guess.
