After months of debate and public outcries from supporters and critics of illegal immigration, the Senate voted 62-36 tonight in favor of a plan that nearly all conservatives are calling a massive amnesty. By doing so, the Senate has effectively declared war on the House of Representatives, which last December approved a plan emphasizing border security.
Four Republican senators who are frequently mentioned as potential presidential candidates in 2008Majority Leader Bill Frist and Senators Sam Brownback, Chuck Hagel and John McCaindisregarded the concerns of the American people in favor of a bill praised by the Democratic Party and liberal lion Teddy Kennedy.
Ive just finished sorting through the dozens of statements that have poured into my e-mail inbox throughout the night expressing approval and disapproval for the bill. Ive broken them down into the following four categories. I believe these statementsparticularly those of the bills supporterswill have a profound effect on these politicians, particularly the Republicans. Twenty-three Republicans voted in favor of the bill, and perhaps they wont be turned out of office in 2006, but this vote wont be one they soon forget. Conservatives should make it a point to remind them.

Rep. Tom Tancredo (R.-Colo.)
The battle is joined. Today, the U.S. Senate passed the largest illegal alien amnesty in American history. It is bad for our national security, it is bad for American workers, and it sends a very bad message to those waiting legally for their chance at the American dream. The only good news is that Congressmen are going home next week where they are guaranteed to get hell from their constituents for this amnesty.
Rep. John Shadegg (R.-Ariz.)
The immigration bill passed by the United States Senate is fatally flawed. It rewards people for breaking our laws and demeans the significance of becoming a U.S. citizen.
President Bush says he does not support an automatic path to citizenship for those currently here illegally. Neither do I. But, in fact, the Senate bill creates virtually automatic citizenship. Rep. Mike Pence (R.-Ind.)
The Senate has passed an amnesty bill. Amnesty by any other name is still amnesty. The American people do not support amnesty for illegal immigrants.
House Majority Leader John Boehner (R.-Ohio)
The American people expect Congress to secure our borders and stop the flood of illegal immigration, and House Republicans responded by passing a strong border security bill that re-establishes basic respect for our immigration laws. Now that the Senate has passed a bill, we owe it to the American people to seek common ground on responsible solutions, while always stressing our most important priority is to secure our borders and stop illegal immigration. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R.-Tenn.)
Today I am proud to say that the Senate has acted. Weve taken a bill, and weve made it better. Weve taken a bill that the American people would have concluded was amnestyand by my lights, we took the amnesty out while we put the security in.
Sen. John Cornyn (R.-Tex.)
I strongly believe the federal government has neglected our border security and immigration system for too long, and our country badly needs a comprehensive reform bill to correct decades of inaction. But in its current form, this bill is not where it needs to be.
Sen. Tom Coburn (R.-Okla.)
The American people have been demanding that their elected officials take action to limit illegal immigration first by securing our borders, then by addressing guest worker reform. Unfortunately, this bill reversed those priorities. Rewarding illegal immigrants with amnesty without taking adequate steps to secure our borders is the wrong way to address this problem.
Is it possible for a citizens group to file a massive lawsuit AGAINST the US Senate or Govt. (if this suicide legislation passes) for willful negligence in failing to stop massive destructive third world immigration, or something to that effect?

Senator Jim Talent (MO) nails it in this video. 12 minutes of common sense, but no one is listening.
I will not vote for any of those candidates.
Ping! Not one vote for these idiots.

The Senate has truly jumped the shark. This giant failure will not go unnoticed.
I dunno, but I've decided that if amnesty passes, I'm renouncing my citizenship.
What's the point of being a 'citizen' if your only *benefit* is being taxed and regulated half to death??
Spineless sap.
"House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D.-Md.) Todays vote in the Senate sends should be a wake-up call for the right-wing of the Republican Party that its misguided views are out of step with the American people.
WTF?
Is there some alternate planet Earth that this guy is talking about?
Has he read any polls taken in the last year?
I was disappointed in him... :(
If the best you Republicans in Kansas can do is send a RINO like Brownback to the Senate, just stay home and don't vote. When he votes with the Democrats on the big issues, he's worthless to the Republican Party anyway. The same goes for those who have stuck us with Lindsay Graham and John McCain. Let the Democrats win because it makes no difference to the outcome and just angers the real Republican base.
Maybe it's time to look at the "tin foil hatters", with a little more respect.
This bill and its relegation of American Citizens to a lower tier than illegals, only leads credance to those who claim were all being manuevered into a world go'vt.
Not ONE word on the Front or any pages of today's newspaper (A.C.Press-New Jersey) about yesterdays passing in the Senate
Bump for reference.
Until we take to the streets in massive protests, nothing will happen. If everyone that is really mad about this boondoggle would pick a day to go out and express themselves, we could have over 100 million folks out there - the largest protest ever. I'll probably die of old age before it happens though - it's far too easy to carp and write the occassional letter or email.
The only way the Jackass above on the left will ever get nominated for President is to for him to nominated by the Party of the Jackass on the right.
....misguided views are out of step with the American people.........
This line of complete bullsh#t is starting to wear thin, and it is commonly used mantra by the RAT's who have not won a national election (therefore public opinion) in over 20 years.
