Associate Professor at the University of Nevada Reno tackles politics and gaming art at the same time.
2,456 Names
Joseph DeLappe can often be found logging into an online session of America's Army for hours at a time, but this Associate Professor from San Francisco isn't running around shooting terrorists. Instead, Prof. DeLappe spends the entire session typing. He may stop occasionally when his character is killed and he has to wait for a respawn, or he'll stop to take a screenshot of a reply sent to him from another player, but otherwise, he's just typing.
Prof. DeLappe expects to be typing for some time. This is because he's typing in the name of every single American soldier killed in Iraq since the war started, which according to the Department of Defense is currently 2,456. DeLappe knows this project will take a while. "I tend to do probably 2-3 hours a week" he says, "That'll get me somewhere between 40 and 75 names." The name of his project is "dead-in-iraq," and it's also the name that he signs in under when he logs on to America's Army...

...The reaction of gamers to DeLappe's typing during AA online matches is varied. He says, "A lot of times I'm completely ignored. More often than not I am vote-kicked." Sometimes gamers ask him if he's a soldier, or try to start up a dialogue with him. Other times they'll just shoot him. The more memorable reactions are captured in screenshots and displayed on his official homepage.

God I hate spammers in video games!!!
I deal with idiots like this online (World of Warcraft) every night. Of course, those idiots are typically teens or younger, not professors trying to make a statement.
That guy's sick.
Art? Wow. I missed my calling.
Too bad they can't use cheats to keep this idiot out of the games.
Better yet, they could change his avatar texture to say... Saddam, or if that was to political, a Carebear or something silly like that!
Does this include work hours?
I suppose that depends on what he is a professor of. His website says art. Since he considers this a form of art he may actually claim it is work. Maybe next he willl hand out assignments to his students to do this for him lol.

Meh,
I was an elite AA player for about 2 years, people who play it enough realize how easy it is to die.
Just on tracked servers, which is maybe 85-95% of the servers I played on, these are my stats:
Enemy Kills: 15,274
Killed in Action: 12,223
Fragrate: 1.25 (25%)
Nothing incredible, and you realize that after all that time playing, I'm still only kill5 guys for every 4 times I die.
All four projects this art professor talked of are rehashes of previous projects, some dating back 2 decades.
DeLappe probably has a valid point about the propaganda part of AA though, the Army has new propaganda coming out through the game in a few weeks again. Parading medal winners out in in game interviews.
But this guy is a newb, plays on cheat servers, doesn't track his character, and doesn't use macros, which are easy to do for AA. I could post 2500 lines of data in about an hour. This guy goes online to play games and get paid to do it. And for that, I give him credit.
Ecce homo.
Nicely done!
This is seriously ghey. He'll get kicked on any server that has an active webadmin, all that does is p/o players.
Just download the game (it's free online) and install it. There is a server browser within the game. Just look for the server with the lowest ping, double click it and you are in.
