Today the President Attended the Change of Command Ceremony for the Commandant of the United States Coast Guard
Later today the President will welcome British Prime Minister Tony Blair to the White House. Today's dose will also be a live thread of their Press Conference.
Yesterday the Vice President attended a joint session of Congress for an address by Israel Prime Minister Ehud Olmert
Yesterday Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice met with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mohamed ElBaradei at the State Department
Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island
My barking Yorkies prevented my hearing it too.....they're ever alert and must have seen a leaf fall outside or something. lol
Question about whether Treasury Secretary Snow is leaving. High cost of gas.
Bush: He has not talked to me about resignation and I think he's doing a fine job. The economy is strong. Strong first quarter this year. 4.7% unemployment rate. Productivity up. Home ownership high. Small businesses doing well.
People concerned about rising fuel prices. All the more reason to get off oil.
It's because Blair is with him, probably.
Usual smash of the economy using public's concern over gas prices, etc. Reporter wants to know if Treasury Secretary Snow is resigning. President says no, and that he's doing a fine job.
Bush: One way we can help to lower gas prices is regulatory relief and build new refineries.
Thanks Peach -- you're an amazing transcriber!
I'd certainly prefer Tony Blair over Bill Clinton for the UN!
Wikipedia indicates this, however:
International and intercontinental travel had traditionally been made using a Vickers VC-10 airliner from the squadron; however as those aircraft have grown older and obsolete, with many now out of service, the Prime Minister has increasingly turned to chartering aircraft from British Airways (most commonly a Boeing 777 is chartered).
It also says that Blair proposed a dedicated Airbus for his and the Queen's use; however, the money will not be appropriated until at least 2008.
So, it appears Blair does use chartered BA jumbos.
The reverse of the drive-by media's campaign to talk down the economy for the past 5 1/2 years.
President: Lawsuits running good doctors out of practice and running up the cost of medicine and medical care.
Bush - John Snow isn't leaving, and lists how well he did his job. Pushing alternatives to oil (sounds like he's given up on ANWR), and some relief from regulations so new refineries can be built. As for health-care, get rid of the lawsuits.
The HOUSE approved a bill to drill in ANWAR.
How many times must we repeat this?
Definitely Blair over Clinton.
President: No question Iraq war has created a sense of consternation in America. When we turn television on and see incoccent people die, it's upsetting. We have a strategy for victory. The unity government, the speculation was whether we would even get one. Well, we have one.
Yea .. but it will never make it pass the Senate
What gets me is the libs harp & harp on gas prices. They want to destroy the oil companies. Yet, gas prices are determined globally. I thought the libs liked the "global" idea!
The next two pets I get will be Bush and Blair. :)
Bush is in command for sure
The House approves ANWR all the time. It's the Senate that won't do anything.
I don't know. I WANT MORE REFINERIES. It's the Senate (of course) that's holding things up.
Frustrating, isn't it? Dam* media. I hate them. More than the Democrats. What am I saying? They're one and the same.
Did you see that ABC's blog told viewers tonight to watch for homoeroticism between the President and Prime Minister?
