LONDON, May 24, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) - British pop music star Elton John has attacked the Catholic Church and its position on condom use as a reason for the demise of 60 of his friends to the sexually-transmitted disease, AIDS.
Speaking at a business awards ceremony, he said, "We don't have a medical vaccine but we have a social vaccine and it's called education." He failed to include in his so-called education platform that condoms may be a leading reason for the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Even leading health experts at the United Nations have acknowledged that condoms have an estimated 10% failure rate.
Edward C. Green, a senior research scientist at the Harvard School of Public Health explained in 2003 that the one in ten failure rate of condoms protection from AIDS is "not good enough for a fatal disease." He added, "The way condoms are marketed in Africa and other developing parts of the world is as if they were 100 percent safe."

....demise of 60 of his friends to the sexually-transmitted disease, AIDS..... Demise of 60 friends ??
How can the church be blamed for spreading a disease that wouldn't spread if behavior were modified?
Hey Elton .. the church suggests not to have gay sex
How about you take personal responsibility for your own actions
Oh, Elton... I doubt that any of your friends were anymore influenced by the church's position on condoms any more than they were influenced by the church's position on sodomy...
His friends decided to listen to the church about CONDOMS?!
It's everybody's fault but the Sodomite's. It's a third grade mentality that doesn't take responsibility for its actions.
A convenient but irrational fiction.
You have got to be kidding me? Has Elton ever heard the phrase 'personal responsibilty'? How is it a Gay, or anyone for that matter, makes the choice to screw around yet opts for a religious no-no in the condom department?
That is just so much Bull Hockey...it makes you laugh. WHINE, Elton, Whine.
This begs for a song but it would probably get pulled.
The men who refused to control their lust even in the face of the risk (known for decades now) of contracting a deadly disease are NOT at fault here. The people who warn them that their practice of sodomy could well kill them are at fault.
Makes perfect sense.
"Oh no!" says Bruce, "is there anything that can be done?"
"Listen carefully", says the doc. "I want you to go home and eat.......2lbs of hot sausage meat.....3 cans of baked beans....half a head of cabbage......3 carrots.....10 hot Jalapeno peppers.........half a box of Grape Nuts and I want you to wash the whole thing down with half a gallon of prune juice!!"
"Gee doc, will that cure me?" says Bruce.
"No......",says the doc "but it will teach you what your ass is for!!"
Obviously, The Church would have nothing to say about the use of condoms and gays. Why would it? Birth control is not an issue,
I wonder if he supports mandatory testing, a registry of those positive, and criminal charges brought against those positives who engage in sexual activity with other human beings?
I'm guessing that program would be more effective than condoms.
"the one in ten failure rate of condoms protection from AIDS is not good enough for a fatal disease."
Don't most condoms have 'Not for the prevention of disease' clearly printed on the package? I guess the 60 or so friends of Elton that died of Aids were also illiterate along with being degenerate sodomites.
I wonder if Elton would have sex with a guy that has AIDS if the guy wore a condom. I somehow doubt that he would.
"We don't have a medical vaccine but we have a social vaccine and it's called education."
Yes. And the lesson is - Dont stick you #*&# up some other guys #*#.
The only way elton's comment could be true is if his 60 "friends" were molested as children by infected gay priests. Apparently elton agrees that the gay priest scandal has brought much of the problems the church suffers today.
Doesn't the gay community also blame Reagan for aids? After all, he didn't pour billions of dollars of taxpayer money into aids research, therefore he is responsible!!
