WASHINGTON -- The number of military members discharged under the Pentagon's "don't ask, don't tell" policy on homosexuals rose by 11 percent last year the first increase since 2001, officials said Wednesday.
A Pentagon spokeswoman, Lt. Col. Ellen Krenke, said 726 service members were discharged under the policy during the 2005 budget year that ended last Sept. 30. That compares with 653 discharges the year before. She released the figures after a gay rights advocacy group said it had obtained the statistics on its own.
Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, which has represented military members who were forced out for being openly gay, says the Pentagon's policy deprives the military of qualified and experienced personnel in at a time when the Army and Marine Corps have struggled to meet their recruiting goals.

I was hoping the doorknob wouldn't give 'em that "special" thrill.
Yeah, likely the 630 troops that re-upped at Fort Carson, Colorado 2 weeks ago, en masse, almost an entire regiment, were obviously just a bunch of gays who wanted to stay together
The army has no retention problem, but the MSM has created a recruiting problem by failing to tell the truth about Iraq. If the army wants to maiontain recruiting levels, they simply need to get the news out of who is winning in Iraq.
What a typical BS lib distortion. Recruitment goals are consistently being met -- That's fact! I guess looking back, this morning I struggled to tie my shoes, eat breakfast, brush my teeth. Later I struggled at my job. Then I stuggled boiling pasta for dinner. And yet I do it every day for 365 days a year. Idiots.
Solution - ask, then if they give the wrong answer, show 'em the door of the recruitment office.
The U.S. military is not the place for BJ Clinton's social experiments. Destroying the military was the first order of business in building the "CLINTON LEGACY"...
This is the Clinton Legacy of his first 100 days.
Remember the FIRST think clinton wanted to do was legalize homosexuals in the military.
So would hitlary legalize all homosexual marriages? (answer: yes)
If these numbers are correct, the 1379 servicemen discharged under this policy hardly constitutes a great drain on the nation's military strength.
Perhaps these 1379 people realized the obvious: military service in the US Armed Forces is not compatible with homosexually. They reached the correct decision and sought to leave. For that decision, they should be applauded.
Don't forget the SFgate and the AP report that those in the miliary are typically poor and desperate and minority.
So the military should never have recruited these poor, desperate, minority, and homosexual peoples.
So according to the left they should not be allowed to recruit anyone but they have to keep all the homosexuals.
how many of those were attempted rapes?
how many of those were discovered because of HIV positive tests? (just what you want in a bullet wound)
I've always wondered what the percentage of gays in the Military were there to defend our Country, to cover up that they are gay or just that so many men in one place, so many choices.
The number of military members discharged under Pentagon's CLINTON'S "don't ask, don't tell" policy...
As I have stated before and will state again -it is way past time to kick Clinton's homosexual legacy of "don't ask, don't tell" to the curb -conservatives need to put it down like a rabid leftist animal asap...
Without data showing how many of these were on their first enlistment it is a meaningless number.
There are no societal sanctions anymore for being gay, so it is one of the methods of choice for getting out of the military.
For females, it is getting pregnant.
Bill Clinton's policy!
I guess they conveniently left that out in order to "Blame Bush"!
How many of these losers joined to get discharged and then go on stage to trash the military with the other better known rats?
Thank Bill Clinton. Thank Colin Powell.
