AT BEST OF THE WEB, more criticism of Dennis Hastert's claim of special privileges for Congress:
Hastert and Boehner's objections are bound to rub many Republican constitutents the wrong way. After all, the first plank of the Contract With America was a promise to "require all laws that apply to the rest of the country also apply equally to the Congress." Something like this makes it harder to argue that the GOP deserves to maintain its majority.
Indeed. ED MORRISSEY ON THE JEFFERSON INVESTIGATION and the lame response from the Congressional leadership: This whole "cut their pay and send them home" thing is sounding better and better . . .
So Hastert's got his knickers in a bunch over what the FBI did.
Calm down, missy.
Maybe the FBI should look into Hasterts business deals.
Interesting choice of words.
Sure! As soon as we've xeroxed them all in triplicate. :)
I think Danny boy protests to much....maybe the FBI should get a court order to looky see in his office....might find alot more than $90,000.00
I agree. The man has broken the law for cryin' out loud. What is it that the congress doesn't understand about that? This is just one more indication that all of those bozos really think they are above the law!
Trolls don't vote for any GOPers...
BS to the Congress. Where was the outcry when everbody wanted the Nixon tapes turned over?
And with that, I am here to offer you a hearty welcome to FreeRepublic.
Hastert, you spineless POS. The man's guilty as h*ll. He bloody well was videotaped. FBI had probable cause. Congress is NOT above the law. And people wonder why Congress isn't to be trusted.
Just emailed Hastert with a blistering message.
I normally do not send emails to "elected officials" because they think they are above the law, but for the Speaker of the House to insist that they are above the law is beyond the pale.
wake up. 3rd party is a waste and 3rd party is for loosers in this environment today.
This is a test case.
THINK
Remember when the Nixon docs were subpoenaed? Nixon lost that one. This is the same situation in reverse.
Congress can subpoena docs.
This is not a "executive" situation. This is a criminal activity which binds all to the same law. Unless congress has exempted themselves they are going to loose this legal argument.
I think this is a test case for "leaky leahy" situations.
THAT is why the congress critters are nervious.
Their constant bickering and sniping back and forth is nothing but a show put on for all the little people out there to make them think there's a real idealogical difference. Problem is, there's not.
Say what you want about third party voting, but I am headed that way with my head held high. I intend to put principle ahead of party loyalty.
[Hastert] - "We think those materials ought to be returned," Hastert said, adding that the FBI agents involved "ought to be frozen out of that (case) just for the sake of the constitutional aspects of it."
How can you say something like that in public? It shows you have not read the warrant. Like 'SE Mom' said in the other thread, where do they get there staff. If I can find the warrant online ???? He should know the agents doing the search ARE NOT ON THE CASE. So they are 'already removed'. Starting on page 74 of warrant [77 of pdf file] - there are 'SPECIAL SEARCH PROCEDURES' :
http://www.tray.com/docs/WJJeffersonRedactedAffidavit.pdf
To ensure the prosecution team does not 'view' items which may fall under the Speech or Debate Clause privilege, the search is done by 'non-case agents'. In the warrant it states the non-case agents will not disclose any politically sensitive material inadvertantly seen and will attest to this IN WRITING [if it leaked, pretty easy to track them down and].
