IN the debate over immigration, "amnesty" has become something of a dirty word. Some opponents of the immigration bill being debated in the Senate assert that it would grant amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants. Supporters claim it would do no such thing. Instead, they say, it lays out a road map by which illegal aliens can earn citizenship.

Instead, they say, it lays out a road map by which illegal aliens can earn citizenship.Hmm, don't we already have laws on the books that speak to earning citizenship? The invaders already know the right road, they just prefer not to use it.

Everyone here just ask yourselves what we would all be saying if Bill Clinton had pushed this nauseating sell out of the country through the Congress.
The screaming and shouting would be endless.

"Everyone here just ask yourselves what we would all be saying if Bill Clinton had pushed this nauseating sell out of the country through the Congress. The screaming and shouting would be endless." Some people get way too hung up on politics and party affiliation. You are absolutely correct, if Clinton were presently seated in the White House and doing exactly what Bush is doing regarding illegal alien policies, every single member of FR would be attacking him. But even so, it's good to see that a good many Republicans who place country before party affiliation are indeed excoriating Bush for his ridiculous, destructive immigration policies. Bush would not have lifted a pinky regarding NG troops on the border and other reforms if not forced to do so by his own party. But none-the-less, his "reforms" still amount to amnesty, and his 6,000 NG troops on the border, rotating around like migrating birds every two weeks is just preposterous.

is making a lot of us Americans looking for some kind of escape.

If they were in this country yesterday illegally and are here legally tomorrow then they received amnesty, by definition. These people did not sneak into this country with the object of becoming citizens, they had no chance of becoming citizens without some type of law being passed to let them do so.

Grant amnesty to those willing to renounce foreign citizenship and willing to be screened for disease and criminality; forcibly deport the rest.
And then sue the piss out of any company employing the former illegals who has not paid federal, state and workers compensation taxes on their employees under IRS or state statutory taxation code. Screw trying to use ICE or INS, go to the IRS and state revenuers.
Also make the new citizens aware of the minimum and prevailing wage laws, as well as all OSHA and Affirmative action laws; and give every last mother loving one of them a card from a pro bono legal firm that will put it up the a$$ of those who have been using them as chattel for decades.
Want to see a situation turn around fast, make the pigs pay.

his "reforms" still amount to amnesty Absolutely true.
Poisonous doublespeak, that's all we get.

A $2000 "fine" is a joke.
If it were a $200,000 fine that would be serious.
seriously at the pathetic nothing the senate has suggested, it is irrelevant. It is a virtual free pass and CUTTING in line. Seriously WHAT LINE? They are here, they are working, they are sending their money to mexico. THERE IS NO LINE for the illegals.
This is pure stuck on stupid.
They should have just put in the guest worker program and told the current illegals they have 12 months to apply as a guest worker. After that, they program is closed to all illegals. NO VISA CONVERTABILITY TO GUEST WORKERS.
However the elitist country club senate are too busy kissing their own respective posteriors.

"Ronald Reagan said, to "humanely regain control of our borders and thereby preserve the value of one of the most sacred possessions of our people: American citizenship."
Amnesty cheapens and devalues that citizenship: illegals get the hell out.
