May 23, 2006)--The United Methodist Church's chief social-issues spokesman, the Rev. Jim Winkler, says Congress should impeach President Bush "to advance the kingdom of God."
Winkler proposed that during the annual "Ecumenical Advocacy Days," attended by delegates from his church and other denominations, most of them members of the National Council of Churches.
In his view, "there was nothing Christian" in President Bush's response to the 9/11 attacks.
The Methodist church's official Social Principles declare, "War is incompatible with the teachings and example of Christ," and reject war "as an instrument of national foreign policy."
The Methodists are America's third-largest religious body.
2. So who here gives money to these people every Sunday? The answer to these jackals is to stop giving money to them.
If the good pastor wants to get involved in politics, revoke the tax-free status of his Church and tell him to come on in, the water's fine.
I guess this preacher wants the fornicator Bubba back.
Maybe he feels bad that Bush opposes abortion and it is almost certain he advocates gay marriage.
Um, Reverend.... Jesus did not come to bring peace to the Earth; to the contrary. Read the Gospel, Sir.
The only way the UMC could advance the kingdom of God would be to repent of their apostasy. Until then, they're just another brand of communism chewing at the roots of freedom. You're going to hell, Rev. Winkler, think about that instead of worrying about matters beyond your parish.
This is exactly the kind of thing that led me to leave the UMC.
They issued a statemend defending Saddam Hussein against the United States a few years ago, and I promptly wrote to them and told them I no longer wished to be associated with a church that would support that brutal regime. I haven't been back since.
bump
I too haven't been to UMC since 1988 myself. They left me long ago.
The whole Pacifist, "Just War" concept, IMO falls apart in the face of a threat like the Muslims. They want us dead. They won't talk to us about it. They just want to kill us. For them, War is very much an instrument of foreign policy.
So, where does that leave us? We can sit and wait for our heads to be sawn off, or we can fight back. The sensible people in this discussion are easy to spot: They are fighting. President Bush is sensible. The silly people in this discussion are also easy to spot: They've lost their heads, and are babbling about impeaching the president in the middle of a war which we are winning with incredibly low casualties.
I would be interested to know if Rev. Winkler thinks there was anything Christian about the act that forced innocent civilians to jump to their deaths from those two buildings. And what would be his suggestion as to how to prevent it from happening again.
Jesus was the son of God. He is PERFECT - infalliable.
Man is falliable. Man fights, man goes to war.
I think I'll sashay to the bathroom and advance the kingdom of God with the Rev. Jim Winkler in mind. |
Thank God for us Catholics....most of us like to drink and fight.
"The Methodists are America's third-largest religious body."
Won't be for long if you keep this up.
I wonder if parishoners' know where some of their tithe money is going?
