(Middletown-WTNH, May 23, 2006 6:38 AM) _ An illegal immigrant is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after plummeting 30 feet while working on the roof of a home. He laid on the ground injured before anyone called 9-1-1, apparently because some of his co-workers are illegals too and were afraid to call for help.
"It was the neighbor actually who watched the incident unfold and was very surprised when after 20 or 25 minutes there were no sirens approaching," says Lt. Peggy Liseo, Middletown Police Department.
Roof repairs came to a stop at the home on Butternut Street home when the Hispanic man in his 20s fell from the roof onto the pavement.
We're told co-workers tried to give him first aid, but no one called 9-1-1 for about a half an hour because at least seven of the workers, including the man injured, are illegal immigrants.
The landlord says Digiorgi Roofing & Siding, Inc. was hired to do the job, but they apparently sub-contracted the job and the workers came in from Massachusetts.
"They were obviously a little on the unsafe side what they were doing but it was a contracted company. They were insured, licensed," says Christine Nicholls.
Digiorgi Roofing and Siding was not available for comment.
On its web site, DiGiorgi says "is fully insured for Workmans Compensation and Liability protection" for themselves and their clients.
Local and federal officials are looking at possible criminal charges, but say it is too soon to tell if the contractors will face charges.
Immigration and Customs officers came to the scene and six workers were taken into custody.
he's got a lawyer now, and will be filing lawsuits and workers comp claims.

Good Work, and about time.
But they'll be working on the house next door tomorrow.
I wonder how the insurance company feels about paying for an injury to an illegal worker?
I bet more lawyers showed up than ICE.
They probably needed a ride to their one bedroom abode.
No kidding?
The one sure loser, other than the illegal alien, is the taxpayer. The medical bills are on the state I bet.
I worked one summer as a roofer and was told that if I fall, I was fired before I hit the ground.
True story,
We let an employee go because we got notice that he was using false indentification. He was an illegal, using false documents He files for unemployment compensation. We go the hearing and say we released him for false documents, the adjuticator at the hearing awards him benefits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Our government at work
Good. Let them be afraid, they will go home.

"They probably needed a ride to their one bedroom abode."
More likely studio abode above the Mexican burrito joint.
But, were they deported or released and back at work that afternoon? Also, will they sue the neighbor, the property owner, and their boss for unsafe working conditions?
I worked summers for 4 years roofing back in college. the largest roofing company in the Twin Cities hires mostly illegals for tear offs and clean up.
OSHA doesn't bother them for fear off being called racist.
You must've been in an extreme minority while at Madison.
Yes...but did they at least help the new millionaire who had fallen off the roof?
Hey,we had the same boss!!
