Here's a pretty cool video of one of the reproduction 262's flying at a German air show.

With the exception of the FW190 and the ME262, I have never been a huge fan of German aircraft styling, but boy that is one beautiful and dangerous looking bird!

We were lucky that Hitler was stupid and decided it should be turned into a bomber.

That's wicked. If I had money and time, flying old planes like that would be my hobby.

This one's a reproduction; I wonder if they used chromium in the engines like the original design called for. Germany ran out of chromium due to allied bombing, so they used more steel in the engine. As a result, the number of hours it could be used before the engines had to be overhauled was absurdly short. Made operating it a complete pain.

Come to Midland for the AirShow in October.

The CAF has the largest collection of WWI/WWII birds anywhere in the world.

I agree. They were an atrocious bunch, but the SS were perhaps the snappiest dressers in their day.

Great looking plane; it stands the test of time. It must have been a sight to see in 1944/1945.

Nice video...I didn't think there was any flying condition 262's.

the ME262 and ME 109 really were cool looking.. and although I love the look and the power of the Mustang. My favorite WWII warbird was the enemic P-40 as used by Chenault and the flying tigers.

The engines are modern GE ones. From the outside they have facades covering them so that they appear to be original Junkers or BMW, I forget which.

"It must have been a sight to see in 1944/1945."

It was, but if you reported it, you'd get a psych eval, planes without props, nonsense! <-- happened to some bomber crews.

The back story on these planes is pretty remarkable.
