Actually I would have considered that commment more of a compliment.

I think that he left a line off the jibe at Qayle: "You're no Jack Kennedy. You're better than he was."

The funny thing about that was after the debate, someone did an interview with Dave Powers, JFK's close friend and director of the JFK library, and Powers said that they had searched and searched, and could find no photo of JFK and Bentsen together, or find anyone who knew the two actually were friends. Bentsen did serve in the House with JFK for a couple of years, but that seems to have been the extent of any contact they would have had.

I hated him for taking a cheap shot like that. It was stooping to the level of calling someone's Momma a name - childish and insulting. I hope his legacy is forever stained with it.

Having said that, I give my condolences to his family in this time of grief. May God give them comfort.
