In the same explanation, she (Sheehan) also suggested that part of the reason for the lack of a headstone might be a dispute over monies paid to the mortuary that handled Casey's funeral services:
(an offset quotation)
We had a Casualty Officer who abandoned us when our mortuary refused to pay the cemetery and told us that the "government sent the money to the mortuary, so now it is your problem. You may have to sue the mortuary."
(end quote)
The owner of the mortuary, Steve Nadeau, has disputed this statement:
Nadeau expressed hurt and disbelief at Sheehan's comments. He said that the amount of money the military gave the mortuary for Casey's funeral service and cemetery arrangements didn't even come close to covering the costs.
"Several kind citizens made donations," said Nadeau. "I absorbed the rest."
This was not the only way in which he went above and beyond his responsibilities following Casey's death, said Nadeau. He also provided a stretch limousine and a driver at his expense, he said, and invited the family to go to the airport with him so that he could accompany them. None of this was required, said Nadeau.
"Having known the Sheehan family for many years through St. Mary's Catholic Church where Ms. Sheehan had previously been the youth director, it was my desire to provide care and dignity to Casey and the family. I did this in every respect."
Nadeau also refuted Sheehan's statement that the mortuary finally paid the cemetery only after the family threatened to bring the story to the media.
"This never happened," said Nadeau. "I would stop by the family home as I do most families' homes and check with them on necessary needs, etc."

He should sue her for slander...he'd win.
"He should sue her for slander...he'd win."
I agree, but he has way too much class. I can see Sheehan suing though - she has none.
She's a media whore who will say anything for a snippet of media coverage. She has no shame and wouldn't hesitate to dishonor her son's memory.
funny in a sick way.
Seems rather sick that she says she would sleep on Casey's grave.
The final episode of Star Trek: Enterprise was rerun last night, which led me to look up Enterprise novels to see if a certain event in the episode had been overturned. Turns out the most recent novel (Last Full Measure, by Michael A. Martin and Andy Mangels) was not only anti-military and a thinly-veiled assault on our WOT, but the author's dedication included Cindy Sheehan. Barfarama. Needless to say, I won't be reading it.
I feel badly for anyone who has lost a child in war. Having said that, Cindy Sheehan's 15 seconds were up a long time ago, and IMO, the public largely thinks she's nuts.
She's in love with her own fame, and it shows. As long as she gets to have that pained look reinforced with praise and applause, she's fulfilled. She's a role model to dry ovaries throughout liberal land.
When she hugged Hugo Castro, she jumped the shark.
This came up 6 months ago. Old news, and who cares?
It wasn't on Snopes six months ago, or even one month ago.
BTW, how do you like your:
There's a number of us here who carry Sigs.
Right now I have a Springfield 1911 A1 loaded, that no longer looks like the factory model. I changed all the guts, the externals are matte stainless. That was the easy part.
The fun part is starting. I ordered Novak Lo Mount night sights for it, should have them in on Saturday. Then it gets a Nowlin barrel, bushing, link set.
Last is the Black T finish. I saved all the expensive stuff for last. But it's already a good shooter and it will be waterproof and cool looking when its done. :)
Do you mean further dishonor her son's memory? The witch has pretty much pissed all over the poor kids grave.
Nobody deserves a mother like that, even in death.
