Excellent. It's too bad it's so surprising to find a pro-Bush piece on this site these days.

This just hits so many points dead-on, particularly the Meiers issue. No, I wasn't a fan of hers, but that was really the fork in the road, where as the writer points out the folks who like Bush when he picks "one of ours" took the turn-off. There were so many postings then that picked-and-chose bits from her record, something which could have been done to prove ANY conservative wasn't 100% on the same page with us, that I kept wondering "I don't care for this person much, but I don't get this picayune crap."

From that point, when Bush asked us to take him on faith for the first time--WE failed HIM.

I'd comment on the current big issue but I simply don't want to deal with 100 stupid "Bush is a traitor" posts.

I have never posted with a "Bush can do no wrong" poster. I see a lot of people who support him, do not agree on everything, but still think he is a good President. I see a lot of "Bush can do no right" posters posting the same thing on every thread no matter what the subject.

Thanks so much, M. Thatcher. Does this mean I can stop hollering at my computer now? LOL, We all knew this in 2000! What the heck is the problem here?

More important, now that we've heard their rant over and over and over and over from the disgruntleds, why don't any of those posters suggest options for 2008??? I'm all for hearing what they have to say about the FUTURE.
In the meantime, let us 'Bots enjoy the present administration while we can:

The only thing I hate on FR is that you can't criticize the president or his judgement without being accused of spewing hate. (If you objected to the absurd appointment of Meyers to the SCOTUS, you were sexist. Now, if you object to the president's plan to reward criminals with citizenship, and flood the country with poor desperate immigrants, you are full of hate and don't give the president any credit for what he has accomplished).

Well I have not abandoned him. I guess that puts me in the lower percentile of that polling, and that is quite okay.

When it is all done and over with, GWB stayed true to his core at the crossroads (and ever since too) and that is what counts.

Of the twelve men who have held the office of POTUS, two stand out for overcoming the most adversity and making the toughest decisions. Harry Truman and George W. Bush. OK, so I was too young to know much about FDR, but my Dad sure didn't like him.

Thanks for interrupting my read of this thread with your SECOND asinine comment ... Reagan cut and ran from the islamists when our base was attacked in Beirut. President George W. Bush did EXACTLY what President Jefferson did when he took the fight to the fight to the islamic pirates in north Africa, as in the SHORES OF TRIPOLI...go put your head back up where it belongs, you aren't fit to carry President Bush's shoes.

"Bush epitomizes Sowell's observation: "If the Democrats were to propose that all Americans leap off a thousand-foot cliff, moderate Republicans would come up with a compromise proposal that three-quarters of us leap off a 500-foot cliff.""

Actually at this point, no matter years of perception (helped by the GOP congress in clinton's last 6 years), I am not sure the 75% rule is even true anymore. The GOP can outspend anyone, and that archaic device called a 'veto' is nowhere to be found.

Sorry, part of FR is people are allowed to debate (i.e. disagree) with you on a thread. Maybe you could open a 'positive comments only about bush' website and host this article, where you would be free to ban people who don't agree with you.

There is nothing wrong with admitting that we need someone more reliably conservative and effective than Bush in the White House, and we should be working hard to ensure that happens in 2008.

In the short term, we should be grateful for the worthy things Bush has done and continue to press him as hard to the right as we can.

"Conservatives are supposed to be the ones who think, not the ones who just go with the lump in their throat."

Where did you hear this? I think both parties are full of people who mainly want to reinforce their own ideas and do not handle debate or disagreement well.

Ask your favorite blogger if they were surprised when he refered to the Minute Men as vigilantes?

History will vindicate his decision in Iraq.

As great (and correct) as Bush's decision was to tackle Iraq, that's how awful and destructive his decision to import up to 100-200 million immigrants into the US over the next 20 years.

The US is a great nation with untold resources and resolve, and much love for humankind in its soul.

But forcing the US to become a nation made up of HALF unskilled, no English immigrants with a leftist bent is suicide.

It absolves Mexico of its responsibility to reform ITS society, and it puts untenable pressure on US society. It will lead to balkanization the likes of which we've never seen.

No my friend. At one time, I too would have done anything for President Bush. I would have walked around the world over broken glass. I was ready, like you, to debate (and fight) for GWB's honor at the smallest insult.

But I feel this immigration proposal is wrong, DEAD wrong, and I refuse to see America turned into Mexico North with all its problems and corruption.

There is a reason America is the greatest nation on earth, and it's largely because we've maintained a balance.

Stuffing this country with people's beholden to another nation and another country will be our demise.

That's why I've turned on President Bush.

Is he a decent and caring man? Certainly.

But he is so wrong on this immigration issue, and it is too important to our nation to simply stand by and rubber stamp our own destruction.
