Tom Tancredo warns America itself 'in mortal danger'
WorldNetDaily.com ^ | May 22, 2006

Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo.

WASHINGTON – Two years ago, he was as lonely as the Maytag repairman – an obscure congressman trying desperately to raise the visibility of an issue he believed threatened the very security of the U.S.

More recently, he has become a force to be reckoned with, the leader of a powerful House caucus, a Republican who has taken on the president, a man respected for outspoken positions and the political force behind what has become the hottest issue in the nation.

Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., chairman of the House Immigration Reform Caucus and the undisputed heavyweight champion of the border security issue in the nation's capital, now tells the whole story of the threats facing the nation, the solutions within its grasp and his own personal quest to awaken the political establishment to the seething discontentment gripping America as a result of illegal immigration.

In his new book, "In Mortal Danger," published by WND Books, Tancredo warns that the country is on a course to the dustbin of history. Like the great and mighty empires of the past, he writes, superpowers that once stretched from horizon to horizon, America is heading down the road to ruin.

English historian Edward Gibbon, in penning his classic "The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" (ironically published in the year America's Founding Fathers declared independence from Great Britain), theorized that Rome fell because it rotted from within. It succumbed to barbarian invasions because of a loss of civic virtue, its citizens became lazy and soft, hiring barbarian mercenaries to defend the empire because they were unwilling to defend it themselves.

Tancredo says America is following in the tragic footsteps of Rome.

Living up to his reputation for candor, Tancredo explains how the economic success and historical military prowess of the United States has transformed a nation founded on Judeo-Christian principles of right and wrong into an overindulgent, self-deprecating, immoral cesspool of depravity.

His recipe for turning things around?

Without strong, moral leadership, without a renewed sense of purpose, without a rededication to family and community, without shunning the race hustlers and pop-culture sham artists, without protecting borders, language and culture, the nation that once was "the land of the free and home of the brave" and the "one last best hope of mankind" will repeat the catastrophic mistakes of the past, he writes.

Tancredo, born and raised in Colorado, represents Colorado's 6th district in the U.S. House of Representatives. Prior to his election to Congress in 1998, Tancredo worked as a schoolteacher, was elected to the Colorado State House of Representatives in 1976, was appointed by President Reagan as the secretary of education's regional representative in 1981, and served as president of the Independence Institute. He serves on the International Relations Committee, the Resources Committee and the Budget Committee, and is the chairman of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus. Tancredo and his wife, Jackie, reside in Littleton, Colo.

Your comment #2 , appears to indicate that you disagree with the words of wisdom expressed by Rep. Tancredo. If one were to judge your rationality, based upon that one comment, the obvious conclusion would be that should a smoke detector awaken you in a smoke filled room, you would deactivate the detector and go back to sleep.

No thanks. This country will not move forward by listening to the naysayers and gloom-and-doomers.

This country also isn't going to move forward by living in fantasyland, ignoring reality, and paying absolutely no attention to common sense and human nature.

I'm drooling just thinkin' about it! IMO he'd win, easily!

THe Church is not violating the law. Its not against the law for instance to have a illegal alien to your house for supper. SO the church has every right and in fact moral obligation that catholics and Christians in their midist are taken care of spirtually and in some cases materially like fed, clothed, medical care etc

And just how does that invalidate his opinion?

It doesn't and it never will, but some people seem to think that if you denigrate a person for their point of view, then their opinion has more value.

One key part of deterrance is demonstrating the willpower to use the weapons at one's disposal.

Indeed, it is even better when you can accomplish your goals of showing that very thing when you can do it without even using the biggest "guns". Afghanistan and Iraq are very good examples of your post, a very good post at that.

Cry me a river. Tancredo is combative and bombastic on purpose. Its a part of his marketing. PLus he has got to get more money for more abortive and perhaps future symbolic Preisidential campaigns in the future. His pension is vesting in 08 so he needs to sell more books and think ahead of his glorious future as some talking head on some program on MSNBC in the future

Wrong. That is how the leftist media has painted Tom Tancredo. I've attended several of his speeches and personally met him a few times. He is one of the most personable, humble congressmen I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. No, he IS the most personable, humble congressmen I've ever met.

He's always one of the people. Never has aides, handlers, or an entourage around him when I've met him or seen him. He is good people who honestly cares about issues important to me. He has spent more time, while in office, living right on the border than any other Congressman. He has repeatedly travelled to border areas and stayed with private citizens in their homes and on their ranches to experience the border invasion first hand. I know of only one other Congressman who has done this and that is Rep. Steve King (R-IA) who just recently did this for 5 days. This is not a stunt. Tancredo doesn't publically announce his "undercover" time here. I learned about it through those who were part of his border tours. It wasn't a big black windowed van entourage tour with white linen banquets in the desert and a helicopter out. This is boots on the ground, firsthand, talking to the real people who are negatively affected by the invasion, experiencing of the problems on the border.

Its a plea deal not amnesty the words are not interchangeable.
You can call it whatsoever your little heart desires to call it. I'll continue calling it amnesty because that's what I see it as.
Besides, only the guilty get offered or accept plea bargains.
BTW...is this "plea deal" being offered to a large group of people?
amnesty: the act of an authority (as a government) by which pardon is granted to a large group of individuals
I suggest you look up the word pardon.

What is the meaning of "is"?

The hopefulness expressed by Ronald Reagan, wasn't arrived at by burying his head in the sand like an ostrich.

How is the Catholic Church forcing their views on you or anyone. They re not there in the voting booth with you

Tell it to Teddy K. Take it to the confessional.

Allow things to happen in this world that you can fix, by personally making an effort instead of asking for forgiveness and doing nothing.

I personally do not care what an illegal aliens' religion is.
If my religion said they were on the side of lawbreakers or lawbreakers themselves protecting lawbreakers then I would consider another religion.

My clan got upset at people telling them what to do and came as leaders and indentured servants in the 1600's. I could care less what you or some senators think.

You've lost the debate, badly. You're completely disengaged from reality if you think that the Catholic Bishops are loved by Americans sick and tired of the invasion from the south. Any clergyman who encourages the breaking of the sovereign laws of this nation is a disgrace to Christianity ("Render unto Caesar" etc) and an embarrassment to the country that allows him freedom of worship.

Lawbreaking is not freedom of worship. Most Americans know the difference. Your scofflaw bishops are not beloved except by other scofflaws.

Indeed. This guy is going to catch fire with Americans, IF he can get his word out. Won't matter if he runs as a Republican or as a third-party candidate.

Right now, he is the ONLY Republican I would vote for in 2008 (having said that, I might consider voting for Rudy).

I'll pull the lever for Tancredo no matter what ticket he runs on.

And I will never, never, NEVER vote for a Democrat.
