McCain Rallies Rank-And-File Republicans

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Republican Sen. John McCain (news, bio, voting record), a White House hopeful in 2008, said Monday that the party has plenty of work to do to regain the backing of GOP voters frustrated by deficit spending, the Iraq war and illegal immigration.

Five months before the midterm elections, McCain spoke about the outlook for the Republican Party amid concern within the Bush administration and the GOP leadership about losing majority control of Congress.

"Spending is out of control and a significant part of our Republican base is angry because we have allowed this to happen," he said.

Republicans fear that the party base, discontent with Washington, won't turn out to vote on Nov. 7.

McCain, viewed as the front-runner in a crowded field of potential Republican presidential candidates, spoke to about 200 people at a Republican women's breakfast in New Hampshire, the first-in-the-nation primary state.

McCain said the GOP is committed to New Hampshire's current status. Democrats are weighing changes to their primary calendar that would put two caucuses between Iowa and New Hampshire.

The Arizona senator has been at the forefront of the congressional fight over immigration legislation, in some cases pitting him against some of the more conservative members of his party.

McCain, who said more than 50 percent of illegal immigrants entering the United States arrive through his home state, favors giving some illegal aliens a path to citizenship. Those who pass a criminal background check, learn English, pay back taxes and a fine, should be permitted to earn their citizenship, he said.

"We're not forgiving anybody for breaking our laws," he said. "We're making them pay a very high price."

Yeah, right! After doing all he can to thwart Conservative Republican actions, he comes and tells us how the base is pissed!

We have a three-party system...Republican, RAT and McManiac!

"Spending is out of control and a significant part of our Republican base is angry because we have allowed this to happen," he said.

Allowed? Senator McCain, when someone is run over by a car, the phrase "allowed to happen" applies to bystanders who didn't pull the victim out of the way. It doesn't apply to one of the drivers in the car.

"We're not forgiving anybody for breaking our laws," he said. "We're making them pay a very high price."

It is a small price compared to the fees and legal expenses a typical legal immigrant incurs trying to get citizenship.

Liar.

Egregious, shameless, serial and not-even-proficient liar.

Those are exactly and precisely the same requirements of *anyone* wanting U.S. citizenship: an English test, a background check, produce three years of tax returns, and pay many, many $$ in application fees.

These pols are depending upon the naivete of the American public about their own immigration and naturalization laws to make it seem as if these are extraordinary and "penalizing" requirements.

They speak of English, criminal check, taxes, and fees as if it's some kind of new penalty applied exclusively to illegal alien lawbreakers, and a sufficient penalty to remove their plan from the realm of "amnesty".

In fact these requirements are the same requirements applied to anyone wanting residency or naturalization. They have been so for at least 10 years, and maybe more.

Unbelievable. The pols have been singing this for weeks now, I've yet to hear anyone call them on it.

This is not a "penalty"! It is the standard, run of the mill, day to day and normal paperwork submitted by ALL residency and naturalization applicants.

McCain thinks the American public is ignorant, and it is!

This guy is almost as pompous and narcissistic as Biden. The biggest thing that GOP voters are upset about is the slimy actions of RINOs like John McCain.

I'll second that!

I agree, this is like listening to Clinton piss and moan about all kinds of woes on us for which the groundwork during his tenure was either lain or came to fruition.

I think there's enough people to "no sale" any of the nonsense that spews forth from McCain, a real crap faucet.

If he's our choice, sorry, but I'll vote 3PC.

I'm looking for the candidate that can do the following:

(1) Take the war to the enemy.

(2) Secure the border. I'm not interested in immigration control; secure the border, enforce current law (what a concept) and the current laws will take care of it. Fail to secure the border, and the whole thing is a shell game, and I'm not interested in playing.

(3) Guide the country back toward constitutional government.

I don't see any perfect candidates out there, but its early yet. What is plain is that I will never vote for McCain. His election finance "reform" was an attack on the first ammendment. His betrayal of the Swift Vets was unforgiveable, and I haven't forgiven it.

There are big issues at stake in this and every election, but McCain always seems to think its about him. He's always angling for position when what we needed was someone who would take a stand on principle.

My My.. 2008 Mclaim vs the Hildebeast.. is this not a Bizarro World or what.. We could indeed use a SuperMan though.. "We" could really use a SuperHero.. Newt might work, but he went and got his SuperHero Suit all grundgy.. its all torn up too..

He talks the talk though and his John Wayne walk resembles PeeWee Hermans walk these days.. But he seems to be all we have.. SuperHero wise.. All the others are metrosexuals.. SuperWimps.. like Dubya with SW enblazoned in RED in big letters all over his suit..

6 Thousand troops and a 300 mile WALL... Pullllese..

I couldn't stay home but if I was in a booth with the only choices as Hillary or McCain I'm sure my head would explode.

That's one scenario I hope I never ind myself in.

I'm sure the 7000 people who were recently sworn in as citizens appreciate your comments. Thanks for spitting on legal immigrants, bozo.

And John, I know where your strawberries are...
