ALEXANDRIA, Va. - A congressman under investigation for bribery was caught on videotape accepting $100,000 in $100 bills from an FBI informant whose conversations with the lawmaker also were recorded, according to a court document released Sunday. Agents later found the cash hidden in his freezer. At one audiotaped meeting, Rep. William Jefferson, D-La., chuckles about writing in code to keep secret what the government contends was his corrupt role in getting his children a cut of a communications company's deal for work in Africa

"May be to late for 'ole Billy Jeff now, looks like he's going down. He should of run for Mayor of New Orleans when he had the chance."
Can he still run as a write in candidate as a member of the Felon Party?

He should of run for Mayor of New Orleans when he had the chance. He could still qualify for mayor of D.C., although the apparent lack of a crack addiction will hurt him.

I saw this on the news this morning. It's about time. I guess this wasn't released sooner so ol' Jefferson can't pull a Joe Wilson and scream "Witchhunt by the gub'mint to get back at me for being from New Orleans!" or some similar crap.

This guy has such a poor knowledge of money he doesn't even know that to launder money, you wouldn't use the freezer, but the dishwasher.

"Isn't this the same upstanding gentleman that used rescue resources to try and pull personal belongings out of his house during the aftermath of Katrina?"Yep. Tied up two NG trucks and delayed a helicopter transporting injured patients in order to remove incriminating evidence from his house (most likely;he was under investigation before Katrina hit)

"The overarching truth is, in their worldview, it's a world of business and sovereign nations only serve to restrict business operations and ultimately, profits. Who needs borders? Free trade, cheap labor, and open borders for all! Yep, they're all one world government whores sold out to their big business constituents. That's the only explanation that is consistent with their actions over the last 25 years. In truth, they've all sold us down the river for big business and a one world government which will benefit.... you guessed it.... big business."That was a truely assinine post.
Humanity has had cross-border trade between private businesses ever since humanity developed the concepts of "trade" and "borders".
Trying to link normal cultural behavior to illegal immigrants is a typical, ignorant, elitist position which uses a lot of words to say absolutely nothing.

Jefferson, who has pledged not to resign from Congress in the face of the bribery investigation, speculated about his political future in one of the recorded conversations. Typical dem response.... "I didn't do anything wrong and I'm not stepping down..." This defiance makes me sick!

i had wondered if Jefferson was retrieving money when he was taken by Nat Guard to his home post Katrina after reading of his bust this weekend. maybe that was what was in those containers he brought out. He'd not want to leave $100K in cash in his flood ravaged house now would he?

"If he's gotta pay Minister X, we don't want to know. It's not our deal," Jefferson told the witness, according to the affidavit. "We're not paying Minister X a damn thing. That's all, you know, international fraud crap. We're not doing that. We're not doing any of that that gets us (unintelligible)." "unintelligible" my (unintelligible)

Don't know about what he may have retrieved but it isn't the $100,000 mentioned in this thread that he was caught with in VA. The time frames are different. This thread is about money confiscated pre Katrina.

Now let's see. I'd like to see this fully developed, should take (hmm, this is late May), should take five months to really get this case fleshed out. Let's make sure that we get this in the press frequently, like the Lefties do with each and every little diddly thing they don't like from our side. Let's stick this in their face just about every stinking day! Culture of Corruption, Yeah, here.
