Ex-president Bill Clinton said Saturday that global warming is a bigger threat to the future of America than terrorism.
Speaking to the graduating class at University of Texas' Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, Clinton insisted:
"Climate change is more remote than terror but a more profound threat to the future of the children and the grandchildren and the great-grandchildren I hope all of you have."
Clinton explained: "It's the only thing we face today that has the power to remove the preconditions of civilized society."
The theme is not a new one for the former president. Last September, he predicted that New York City would eventually be devastated if the U.S. didn't start taking global warming seriously.
"We know if something doesn't happen to slow this warming down, whole island nations in the Pacific will be flooded," he told CNN's Larry King. "We'll lose 50 feet of Manhattan Island in New York within the next 50 years if we don't do something to turn this around."
Still, Clinton said Saturday that he was optimistic that the global warming crisis can be solved, "assuming we get off our butts and do something about climate change in a timely fashion."
"I think we should be in the Kyoto climate change system," Clinton said, without noting that while president, he declined to sign the Kyoto Protocols.

You need a small correction
I seem to keep up with everything, the Bible Code, which many reject, marked 9-11 as the begining of the End Times.
According to Revelation power will be given to the sun, over time, to scorch men, killing trees, sea life, and all green grass.
So it's hard for me not to believe in global warming. But it is also true that no treaty we enter into will do one thing to stop it. If we all stopped driving our cars tomorrow, ended all emissions from factories, killed off every methane producing cow, and slowed our breathing, we will still face a hotter sun in our future.
BJ sure did a lot about terrorism. Remember Waco and Ruby Ridge.
Don't forget how the Muslim contacts for Oklahoma City were literally "White washed".
It's not broken at all. It just so happened that conservatives allowed their panties to get in a wad about Bush 41, continued to talk down the Republican party and supported Ross Perot in the election of 1992.
If they don't watch out, they're going to allow the same thing to happen in 2008, all the while saying, "We have to do SOMETHING it can't get any WORSE than it already is." Well they did do something in 1992, they voted for Perot, Bush 41 lost the election, and gave us Bill Clinton, whose inaction in the face of terrorism set us up for the attacks on 09/11.
what a shameless huckster. Terrorism is real, "global warming" is a myth.
Turning aside from the terror threat will ensure the subservience of whatever children and grandchildren survive.
Yep, hard to see how 1 degree increase in temperature over a CENTURY would COMPLETELY melt the ice caps.
Put some ice on that!!
Or Monica???
I read your profile. Interesting. Actually, you should have been able to observe that the biggest destroyers of the "finite" resources we have on earth are Communist, socialist, command economies. Capitalist economies are the only ones with the "means" and prosperity to devise workable solutions to pollution. I'm only 38, but I can remember how polluted things were when I was a kid. We are the only hope for the planet (capitalism). We can clean up our messes because we have the technology, and the $ to do it. The US in 2006 is a garden of Eden compared to the filth of 1971.
The Clintons are not going to let Gore get to the left of them on the environment, the tree-huggers are an important block in the primaries.
All the hot air from Clinron causes global warming. ditto
It snowed today in Central New York. Un-believable! Some global warming.

Um, so you listed a fiction writer as the only evidence you have?
Can I cite Dan Brown as proof of the conspiracy of the Catholic Church?
There are tens of thousands of scientists with absolutel no vested interest in wanting humans to be the cause of climate change and you are resorting putting up a science fiction writer as your most valued resource to the contrary.
Sorry pal, you, Crichton, Exxon and the people in the White House are about the only ones left. And even the White House is starting to budge a little. Maybe you want to pull your head out of the sand and start taking a conservative approach to solving a real problem rather than living in denial
I think you are the one who needs to grow up.

You show your invincible ignorance - and obstinate determination to stay that way - every time you open your mouth.

So he is a medical doctor. Not a climatologist. Never said he wasn't a smart guy, but he is still a writer of fiction. Doesn't seem like you have much amunition.
Maybe you can quote to the CEO of Exxon. Yeah, he certainly is a qualified source. And certainly unbiased.
