President George W. Bush strides across the world stage as much as the U.S. dominates the world's stage.
This is very good news for those of us who still believe in decency and democracy.
So forget what some slanted opinion polls say about the leadership of the 43rd president and his patriot countrymen.
Recall, Sir Winston Churchill was once one of the most detested men in Britain, then went on to save the free world.
That's Churchill's undisputed legacy.
In another era it may be Bush's legacy, too.
This past week, Australian Prime Minister John Howard, one of America's strongest allies, was in Washington on a state visit.
He was hailed by one and all in the nation's capital.
Later, Howard was in Ottawa to visit America's latest allies, Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the newly elected Conservative government of Canada.
And we all know British Prime Minister Tony Blair is also one of Bush's -- and America's -- strongest allies.
Bush and America have many other allies throughout the world, too, although to read the nauseating Lib-Left news media, one would get the impression Bush is a pariah and America a rogue state.
Well, would you rather have the likes of Communist China, Communist North Korea, or Communist Cuba soldiering the world?
How about Middle East sheikdoms such as Iran, Libya, or Yemen running the show.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has already let it be known when his nation gets its hands on nuclear weapons he will use them against the Western democracies.
North Korea's president Kim Jong-il boasts he already has nuclear weapons and is building intercontinental ballistic missiles to carry them to western countries.
Back in the 1960s, Castro tried to install Soviet missiles on his island nation aimed at Canada and the U.S.
Do you honestly believe Bush, Blair, Howard and the like do not have a duty to safeguard us against these types.
Or would you rather have a stack of African dictatorships in charge -- nations ravaged by tribal warfare with their hands constantly out for billions of dollars in western aid that invariably is used to build luxurious palaces and deposited in secretive Swiss banks.
Vladimir Putin's Russia is a mess -- democracy there is in danger -- and old Soviet-style hawks want to take it back to the days of Stalinism.
Many of its non-Eastern European vassal states are in a mess, too, governed by local chieftains.
In Latin America bullies such as Venezuela's Hugo Chavez are on the rise.
Their hero, Fidel Castro, lives in luxury while his people continue to live under decades of food rationing.
India and Pakistan -- always at each other's throats, and courtesy of past Canadian Liberal regimes loaded with nuclear missiles -- pose a constant threat to that part of the world.
In Italy, we just lost Silvio Berlusconi, one of Bush's and America's best friends, in favour of left-winger Romano Ponti, and we don't know where he stands on preserving the international rule of law.
In Spain, when the Conservative government of Jose Maria Aznar fell, and Socialist Jose Zapatero came into power, the Spanish quickly capitulated to Islamic terrorist blackmail.
Thankfully, NATO and Norad are still holding together, and some perceptive Europeans leaders are even talking about a missile shield against rogue nations similar to the one proposed by Bush and rejected by weak-kneed types such as the Jean Chretien/Paul Martin Liberals.
Gutless, every one of them.
Talk about 21st century Neville Chamberlains!
So we're left basically with Bush, Blair and Howard and whatever smaller nations such as freed Soviet slave states in the European Union can pull together.
Yes, we've all read in the midst of this international war on terror that Bush has slipped this month to an all-time low in opinion polls at just 29%.
But recall that back in 1951 during another war on terror -- the attempt to prevent Josef Stalin's hordes from advancing into Western Europe and the all-out effort to save South Korea from advancing Communist North Korean forces, backed by Red China -- Democratic President Harry Truman fell to 23% in the polls.
The anti-America mobs can howl all they like, but I'm sticking with Bush, Blair, Howard and other true leaders of the western democracies.
I hope you are, too.
Post 46 was not just applicable to you -- that was my whole point, it puts things into perspective for everyone, who think that their pet issue is the most important thing in the universe. You were just the incidental person, who precipitated it, but it applies to others.
See, here again, you think everything is always all about you. ;)
I've noticed that too. It seems like a LOT more Freepers feel the way I do and when we speak we get hung, drawn, and quartered. Seems like there is a huge war going on.
Just kidding.
Once again.........a non-thinking response. There is no 'blind allegiance' silly........as long as you have that in your simple minded head, there is no meaningful dialogue, nor any hope for any here.
We can talk about DeWine and Voinovich AFTER you acknowledge that disagreeing with YOU does not mean 'blind allegiance' to President Bush, and stop the kindergarten attacks on people who support him. (I have made stated my opinion on our Senators repeatedly and consistently on this forum).
As for the 80%, you're just making that up........yet another evidence that you're a non-thinking liberal.
I'm afraid, as of now, that you've struck out, sui (three brainless posts).......without convincing me that you are anything but a simpleton Bush basher.
Perhaps if you display some rational thought, I can give you an (undeserved) second chance at a rational discussion. It's up to you.
My question to ohioW was merely to find out where she really stands. ohio W's support of DeWine and Voinovich would be quite telling to me, as those two are the epitome of what is wrong with the GOP.
Then again, your attempt to excoriate me is quite telling of your own inclination to compromise on such a serious issue. This is not some high school football game where we come back next week and try it again. The immigration problem involves our national security, our sovereignty and culture, and the very political and economic well being of the United States.
sui
For most of us, it isn't a pet issue. However, it is a dealbreaker.
As a student of history, I know what happens to nations when a neighboring country migrates in to it. It makes me fear.
It should make you afraid, too. Nothing good will come of this aside from very short term gains.
If this gets as bad as I think it's going to, you, I and every American on this forum can expect some unpleasant lifestyle changes within our lifespans. 200 million migrants within ten years? We cannot absorb that and still keep our national identity. I'd have a better chance of making a swish shot through an eye of a needle from 500 yards.
But hey, he kept us safe from terrorism.
APf
Well it's obvious from your post you are so much more articulate and intelligent than me. By the way, you are right about the 80% number, several polls really indicate its more like 79%. My bad, I was just rounding up.
sui
This President is saving your skin. He's leading the world.......fighting the war on terror every minute of every day, whether anybody else cares or not. He's protecting you, and keeping you alive, and protecting your right to say despicable, ugly, false things about him.
It's really easy for you to sit comfortably in your house and take cowardly potshots at him from your living room.
You perpetually whining bashers don't have the courage in your whole bodies that he has in his little finger.
Your jealously is revealed in every post, ray. He's a man.......a real, honorable, courageous man. And you're an anonymous, safe at home chicken.
"However, it is a dealbreaker."

And the Democrats will really seal the border, right? (/sarcasm).
I think conservatives should keep their eye on the ball and get their priorities straight, which, in my opinion, are -- bsed on their level of impact on all of us:
1. War on Terror
2. JUDGES -- we still need a Republican Congress to confirm Bush's nominees.
3. TAXES -- demand that Congress make tax cuts permanent
4. Social Security and Medicare reform -- need it NOW. Privatize social security.
5. ENERGY SECURITY: DRILL in US controlled areas: ANWR, Gulf, coastal areas, to become independent of foreign oil -- we can't "conserve ourselves" into prosperity.
6. Stop illegal immigration -- which President Bush is doing. What is the problem with the guest worker program, our unemployment is very low, it's not as if they would take jobs from unemployed Americans, and as long as they also secure the border, what's the problem?
What's next suey, quoting the NY Times.........or will it be Ted Kennedy or Howard Dean, huhhh??
You have quite the arsenal of 'facts', you do.
The whiners want an "I feel your pain Commander in Chief" instead of the one we have with nerves of steel as well as a backbone. It's Bush's strength that has saved us in this WOT.
Twilight Zone music heard in the background......
We've left reality entirely here. How far out from the truth are we going to go before this is over??
And when does distorted opinion turn into bald faced lying? Never mind...............you have gone over that line, anta.......WAY over it.
At least you have a sense of humor. :)
The point is that self preservation is the most important instinct and President Bush is doing a phenomenal job of protecting us, against all odds. Of course credit to our great troops who serve, including your husband also.
But without a courageous leader, like President Bush, we would be living in fear, instead of taking the fight to the terrorists, and winning.

bttt for later...
You have quite the arsenal of 'facts', you do.
Its not my job to educate you. Go take the time, read all you can, and make your own decisions. Personal attacks on my opinions aside I haven't seen you serve up any facts lately, other than that you love and trust Bush.
You are absolutely right. This is kindergarten here.
Crying, whining, accusing, feelings hurt, brains unhinged.
Kindergarten behavior is much more offensive when the children are past 21, though. Where have our families, churches, and schools failed that we have raised so many self-centered, me, me, ME!!, Americans??
They want a do-nothing, emoting nobody, instead of a leader who takes charge and tries to solve insoluble problems.
YOU don't have any facts that you haven't gotten from leftist sources. I do.
So don't give me any of this Bushuberalles garbage. You start acting like a grown up, and I'll start giving you my arsenal of FACTS that support the strong leadership, and accomplishments of President George W. Bush.
Until you do, though.......it's good-bye, suey. You quote another poll or leftist source, you get nothing from me except laughter.
Lets just explore what would happen if W took some different decisions.
I am going to start with Illegal Mexican immigration. that is enough for one post.
Lets say President Bush ordered all 10 or 12 million illegals back to Mexico. What would be the attitude of those 10 million Mexicans now back in Mexico without work and starving? Can anyone doubt that the anger in Mexico would be gigantic? WE know they send huge amounts of their pay back to their families. The real question is what would the Mexican government be willing to do do to prevent being overthrown?
What would any Mexican politician with a brain do? The first thing would be to seek foreign aid to provide for these 10 million people sent home and the 20 million they were supporting until the Mexican economy could take care of them. Which nations would the Mexican government turn to for that aid? The quick answer is the militant Muslims in the middle east, Castro, Venezuela, and the Russians. What would the Mexican government have to do to get that aid?
The answer to that is pretty simple.. Just open there side of our common border to Muslim death squads and Castro's own brand of terrorists. Castro for example has never been able to cross 90 miles of sea, but a mile of dirt is a piece of cake. Did I mention what Caesar Chavez would want in return for aid from Venezuela? I didn't think so.
How could we cope with that? We don't have enough troops to protect the middle east and our Mexican border so we would just bring our troops home from the middle east and have them guard the border. With us gone from the middle east what will the militant Muslims do? They would take control of the worlds oil and tell us, we just got our last barrel at less than 600 to 800 dollars a barrel. What could we do in response except pay it. They would need the money to pay for terrorists to attack us from Mexico. Breaking through a guarded border costs money don't cha know.
As unemployment in the USA reached 50 percent from all the shutdowns from 600 dollar a barrel oil, some one could say.. at least we are not following the damed failed policies of Dubbya. At least just once more before the unemployment ran out and your diet consisted of Mac And Cheese you could afford to get a Big Mac that was not served by a Mexican.
I am amazed at the people who demand we send the illegals back to Mexico. Not once have I seen any who propose such a course then provide a way to counter what the Mexican government would do in response. It is like their brain stops working. It is like they think the Mexican government is helpless. The world is full of people so ignorant of the consequences of actions that they will gladly make stupid moves that result in their own destruction. But fortunately few if any have ever been put in charge of anything more challenging than changing a babbie's diaper.
They never address the question of "If the USA does A, what will the object of A do in return." It is like they think the other side never has options or won't exercise them. Most likely they are not bright enough to even consider the consequences of actions.
What would have happened had Dubya not taken on Saddam? What did Saddam do the first time he had enough power to try? He conquered Kuwait and was prepared to take Saudi Arabia when we stopped him. Does anyone with a brain think that Saddam would tell himself, the first time did not work but I survived and so I will never try again?
Control of most of the worlds oil supply would make any nation a super power. Saddam head of the worlds most powerful super power was very attractive to him. And very likely control of most of the worlds oil supply would produce an Iraq that was a stronger supper power than the USA.
I find some of the Dubya haters reactions to his polices are just ignorant and reflect their never haveing been in charge of much of anything excep their own mouth.
Those of us who have been in charge of organizations and competed in the world, always ask ... what will be the response of the other side. What can they do and how can I get what I want at the least cost.
It has been my experience that those with no experience and little knowledge always want to go for the jugular and will support any fool who will propose to do just that. The bright ones always try to proceed to their goal a little at a time. They try get to where they want to go at the lowest possible cost.
Only those who have never achieved power, refuse to consider what the response to a government action will be.
