We have had Generals become Presidents before, and may well again..
Gen. Tommy Franks, 57, speaks at a ceremony marking the one-year anniversary of Operation Enduring Freedom in this Oct. 7, 2002, file photo at at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla. Those who count the increasing number of American soldiers killed in Iraq are missing the bigger picture, retired Gen. Tommy Franks said Saturday night May 20, 2006. 'What we're talking about is neither 2,400, 24,000 or 240,000 lives,' Franks said at the National Rifle Association's annual banquet. 'Terrorism is a thing that threatens our way of life. It doesn't have anything to do with politics.' (AP Photo/Scott Martin, File)

"It makes me think about going into politics," Franks said. "The great blessing is that thought doesn't last long."I like this guy! This has to rank right up there with, "If nominated I will not run; if elected, I will not serve".

Not to downgrade the service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform who have died, but we are just now, in terms of casualities, pulling even with the Spanish American War, which was a LOT shorter.

I like this guy! This has to rank right up there with, "If nominated I will not run; if elected, I will not serve". Can't he still be drafted?

"We haven't got any generals here. They're all in front of TV cameras complaining about Don Rumsfeld," Franks deadpanned. "Difference is, I know what I'm talking about."

"Nevertheless, if one is going to tolerate a running tally of American soldiers killed, they should put it in perspective when Vietnam is invoked by the likes of John Murtha."
And how would you do that? By noting that we lost 58,000 in ten years in 'Nam? How about we point out that we lose that many people each year to auto accidents? BTW, I'm not being sarcastic. I've been using the above figures myself for several years. I'm still trying to find a way to get people to think about what this means, and what we get for what we pay.

"More than 2,400 soldiers have died since the beginning of the invasion of Iraq,....."
Right AP. However what's always conveniently omitted by the MSM, to make the figure look more dire and "all is lost we better get out", is that not all of these were KIA. A good percentage were from illness and non combat accidents. Those who died of illness could, or would, have just as easily died if they were stationed at say Ft. Hood or any U.S. post.
The FoxNews website used to have a breakdown, but no longer.
