Lee Deal of West Monroe Louisiana was a former West Monroe Football standout and an member of B Company 2nd Recon Battalion. An HM3, he was attached to the Marines. He was killed wednesday in Iraq. Details are sketchy at this time. This community of Louisiana has seemed to take an hard hit as to Casualities. This is the third death from West Monroe. This according to my quick caculation is the 57 th Louisiana Citizen that has offered up his life for his State and his Country. Lee Deal is the third student from West Monroe High and the second player from the highly statewide and nationally regarded West Monroe Football Team to have died in the last 11 months.
For Louisiana posters, of interest and note is that He was an all-state kicker on West Monroe's 2000 state champion and National Champion team. He was one of Andrew Whitworth's best friends in high school and they had remained close friends through the year according to a posting on the Dandy Don LSU Fan site. Reportly todays News Star World has a Front page article on this young man but I can't found it available on their site. Lee also attended LSU and Northwestern before entering the military.
A article from Wednesday can be found in this link. Since its Gannett news paper It cannot be pasted or linked directly I guess. http://www.thenewsstar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060518/NEWS01/605180317/1002

For it has been said so truthfully that it is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the soldier, not the agitator, who has given us the freedom to protest.
It is the soldier who salutes the flag, serves beneath the flag, whose coffin is draped by the flag, who gives that protester the freedom to abuse and burn that flag.

God love him and keep him.
God bless him and keep him, and guide his family to hope.
