"Sen. John Kerry on the fence . . ."

Sen. John Kerry on the fence . . . By Boston Herald editorial staff Saturday, May 20, 2006

Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), fresh from the ongoing Senate debate over an immigration bill, offered the following explanation of his vote in favor of 370 miles of fence at the U.S.-Mexican border (estimated cost $3 million a mile) at yesterday’s New England Council breakfast:

“I voted for it because, first of all, a lot of it is the repair of the existing fence. A lot of it is just in the Arizona area, where we have the worst problem, the most numbers of people coming over.

“And if you go down, and you look at the numbers of border [patrol] people that we have right now, and even the numbers - I put in an amendment, which passed, and we raised the number up to about 3,000 [additional] that have to be trained and put out there. But even when we get there, we’re only going to have a couple of people or so per mile, which is simply not enough. So we’re way behind, in terms of the training and production of people. And in the short term, I think this can serve us well.

“If I were making the long-term decision, I’d announce, you know, hopefully it’s a temporary measure, and we can take it down as soon as we have enough people, and we’ve established a process where we’ve reduced the level.

“And I think that should be America’s goal, absolutely and positively. But in the temporary, we’ve got to have a comprehensive approach everywhere, and change forms of behavior everywhere. It begins with enforcement. Enforcement not just on the border, but enforcement against employers who are hiring people illegally, which is supposed to be illegal.”

That clarifies everything, now doesn’t it?

Who says this guy doesn’t have what it takes to make another run for president?

On a side note separate from Kerry's usual ramblings...

I think the 370 mile fence we talked about was not a good idea.

Why?

Because it was only 370 miles?!

Illegal aliens will continue to cross our southern border until we seal it off completely.

370 miles worth of construction is, at best, a band-aid. Some will say that 370 miles is better than nothing - and I agree.

But we needed to go much further than 370 miles.

May I be so bold as to offer a statement on behalf of the losing runner for the Presidency?

Life is good, could be better and it could be worse.

With your demise when running for the Presidential office, it is seen and felt as better Mr. Kerry.

Senator John "The Censor" Kerry
by Roger Aronoff [filmmaker, writer] 5/12/06

Senator John Kerry, the defeated 2004 Democratic Presidential candidate, is sounding like a candidate again. But his recent spouting off about Iraq has served to divert attention from accusations that could sink any future presidential run. Kerry is the target of a lawsuit that accuses him of trying to suppress a documentary that told the truth about his anti-Vietnam War activities.

Take it down? What a complete idiot. I guess he was for the fence, but later will be against it.
