No, it's a ridiculous question so can't answer it as it's written. It's really a two parter:

Do I agree with Bush's idea of "up to" 6000 who are only going to spend their normal two week training on the border? No.

Do I agree the NG should be sent to the border to actually secure the border? Yes.

I'm glad to see that people are recognizing what a transparent sham this "deployment" is. Inadequate numbers (and only "up to" even that), tasking that effectively makes the guard into rear-echelon support staff and no-contact-with-the-"enemy" observers, and a two-week "tour" that'll give them about enough time to learn where the latrine is before they go home.

I agree 100%. To limit the NG role is asinine. Wonder if the President will allow the soldiers under fire to return same?

I remember crossing the bridge into Mexico at Harlingen, TX, I think (it's been a few years, mebbe it was Tijuana) and the Mexican border guards had FAL auto. rifles, almost as tall as they were, but apparently `locked and loaded.'

Yes, send the Guard to secure the border. If the Mexicans see we're finally serious they may stop breaking our laws. As it is, they break them now--immigration, smuggling, drugs, encroachment--every day and in every way.

Serious, how? Tijuana border crossing, last Thursday. One can be neighbors, but not friends, with someone who does not respect you.

Where is the "Iagree with President Bush that all borders must remain open, all illegals given unconditional citizenship and all their relatives should also be given citizenship" option?

/sarcasm

Without arms = futile.
With arms and ammo = the only way to go.

This is a bogus Poll because there is No right answer to it. I am for the Troops on the border but I want to see about 36000 of them Not 6000. So I don't really approve of the mission as its stated.

If it is the usual Bush facade' of feigning doing something while actually not, the poll and its results are meaningless. If the Guard is federalized, armed and assigned a real substantive mission, it will an excellent decision; one of this administration's very few. If, like the guardsmen at airports for those many months after the 2001 attack, they carry weapons but no ammo (only the NCO and officer in command, like Barney Fife, have round in their pocket), it's a meaningless, photo-op illusion. Any Guard ordered to the border should be for not less than 12 months with real enforcement and detainment authority.

I sincerely hope Bush doesn't FUBAR this operation as he's done everything else with the military so far since 09/11. The ineptitude has been really disheartening.

""I sincerely hope Bush doesn't FUBAR this operation ""

He will, as he has done for over 5 years.
