Thank you Jim for posting this thread. The thought of Democrats replacing Republicans for political office is frightening to me.

John Adams quote: no good government but what is republican... the very definition of a republic is 'an empire of laws, and not of men.'

From what I have heard, George Allen is soft on "gay" rights. Heard he is pro-"gay" marriage.

If someone knows the details, post 'em.

Makes one weary...In the end, the right way will be exalted...That's the only comfort...You have been a wonderful example, Jim.

***Sounds like a wonderfull time for GOP candidates to listen to their constituents.***

Posting disclaimer for Republican politicians who ignore the will of the American people. It's already beginning to hit the fan.

"We're talking about replacing rinos with conservatives wherever we can in the primaries."

===

I am all for that, AS LONG AS those conservatives will be able to beat their Dem opponents in November.

I think we should vote for the most conservative, ELECTABLE Republican.

It doesn't matter how conservative a Republican candidate is, if he/she is defeated by the Dems. As we found out many times in CA.

A less conservative, but electable Republican who WINS, and defeats the Dem nominee, does more good for us, than the most wonderful, most conservative Republican who loses and we end up with a Dem replacing an incumbent Republican, RINO or not.

I don't like RINOs any more than anyone else here, but if it weren't some of the RINOs in Congress, the Republicans wouldn't have a majority, because those seats would be taken by Dems.

Defeating incumbent Republicans is always chancy, because that gives the Dems a better chance of winning, going against an unknown, instead of the incumbent.

Allow me to remind you of the first rule of debating. The first one to start name calling has already lost.

I am not willing to accept the assertion that I have to live with a RINO. I would rather lose a minor skirmish than loose the war and passively settling for a RINO is too close to appeasement for my comfort. I will not sacrifice principle for the sake of the party. When RINOs carry the same rating that Dems do, they do little more than take money away from good Conservative candidates and still vote like a Dem. That is worse than a Dem.

But go ahead and resort to name calling - it appears that is the only means you have of communicating.

The dirty little secret of Congress is that anything done in one session, can be undone the next. Look to the strategy, the long term. It has been the mentality that we have to win this next election so lets put up someone who is acceptable to the [non existent] "middle" so we can win, that has left us saddled with unprincipled RINOs that are no more conservative than the Dems.

So it's better to saddle us with a Dem Congress and Dem President?

Do you have any concept of how much damage Carter and Clinton did to the country?

However it seems a good idea to replace "moderates" with "conservatives" in Republican districts. Turnout determines elections, so we don't have to worry much about "moderates" voting for the Democrats. They are more likely to stay home than to vote for the Democrat.

Is this cause for celebration?

The problem I see is that most RINOs come from areas which are heavily Dem and a conservative has no chance of getting any of the independent, or Dem votes and just getting Republican votes is not enough for victory, so you are trading away a Republican for a Democrat, taking the chance of giving the Dems majority in Congress.

And they were swept out of office. Carter was replaced with 2 terms of solid Conservatives and another not so conservative, and Clinton was also replaced with 2 terms.

If we want to move this nation to a more consecrative direction, the so called conservative party needs to act like conservatives.

Exactly. Bilbray has a good chance but the all or nothing crowd are making it possible for the Democrat to win and the National Dems are putting big money in this.
I do not want to end up with a Speaker Pelosi or Majority leader Harry Reid. This is where it is headed if folks don't get out and support the Republican candidates instead of sitting at home or the third party malcontents.

THIS is a direct result of Republican incumbents being defeated:

Republican vulnerability in House races may be growing

http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,635209216,00.html

Despite polls showing rising support for Democrats and scorn for Republicans, analysts have said Democratic hopes for big gains remain remote, because so few seats are in contention.

That appears to be changing.

Over the past week, a handful of once-safe Republican congressional seats have come into play, and other Republican incumbents are facing increasingly stiff re-election battles, according to analysts, pollsters and officials in both parties. The change amounts to a slight but significant shift in the playing field, and a potentially pivotal change in the dynamics of this midterm election.

Republican incumbents being defeated puts the seat in play for the Dems. Doesn't sound like good news for us.

>"May the conservative crackdown continue."<

-That is a good way of putting it. I heard this mentioned on the Rush Limbaugh show a few days ago. We are not having a conservative "crackup"...we in in the middle of a conservative "crackdown".

Perhaps there is hope after all!
