Conservatives, nationwide are getting angry about the loss of principle by GOP'ers in office. Big spending in Washington and Sacramento. The inability to control illegal aliens. Failure to protect jobs and the failure to stop the social agenda of liberals in our schools in finally causing conservatives to say NO to GOP incumbents, even if it means we could lose seats in a legislative body. The thought is simple, why protect a Republican running for office if their voting record will differ little from the Democrats.
In Utah, GOP Congressman Chris Cannon could not win his Parties endorsement for re-election--his opponent got more votes in Convention then he did.
In Nebraska, Congressman tom Osborne, and legend in the state, was defeated for the nomination for Governor due to his weak stand on illegal aliens.
In Heardon, Virginia, five incumbent city council members lost re-election due to their creation of a "Day Labor Center" for illegal aliens.
In the California 50th Congressional District Special Election, the Democrat is ahead of the Republican, since the Republican has been portrayed as more liberal than many Democrats--has even supported Democrats in the past.
But, Pennsylvania last Tuesday should have been the two by four to every GOP candidate and office holder in the nation.At least 14 incumbent GOP office holders, including the top two in the State Senate were defeated in a Republican primary, by Republicans. The good news is that if they had not been defeated, many GOP voters would have stayed home in November. This is a lesson for us in California, and the nation, GOP voters have had enough of Republicans acting like Democrats. Our candidates need to stand for GOP principles, then vote and govern that way once in office.
No longer will GOP voters settle for, "well at least they have a "R" after their name." There is a revolt going on in GOP ranks and it is moving across the nation.
Sorry, just want to tack on one last thought: You're goddamn right it's about power. This is politics in the most powerful country in the world. It's not tiddlywinks.
Gang of Fourteen, anyone?
The GOP libs need to ensure that liberal dems are always seen as a threat, because otherwise they lose their raîson d'être. Indeed, I suspect one reason many RINOs are so soft on immigration and election reform is that were it not for election fraud, the political center would be to the right of where it is now. The hard-left Democrats would still serve a purpose, but the left-leaning members of the GOP would lose all their power.

I suspect that some Republicans may have gone along with it on the theory that the USSC would strike down the bad parts leaving in place the increased personal contribution limits. Dangerous game, given the USSC.

The current situation would never have happened if they had been doing their jobs instead of being yes men and money whores.
Did he promise to veto? I don't remember that. I thought he sort of tiptoed around it in 2000. As his veto record shows, he's deferential to the Congress to a fault.
We would have held the majority even if Specter lost and Jon Kyl -- a solid conservative -- would be the Chairman instead of Specter.
What's the down side to Specter losing?
I hope that you are right and the legal ones -- and only the legal ones -- vote with their head instead of their heart.
Yeah, people knock the gang of fourteen, but here's a couple of points: If you had two choices: make a deal with liberal GOPers which results in getting two SCOTUS picks plus some other picks, or bet on the spinal toughness of Sen. Lott and company, where you puttin' your money? Are you kidding me? So far, I can't see how the gang of fourteen hurt us. Second, how would replacing the 7 lib GOPers with lib DEMs help the situation?

A person who gets it. I would like a 100% conservative but voting write ins or third party just puts in the democrat if a conservative doesn't have a chance.
If folks think they have principle doing that, they are kidding them selves.
3/4 of a loaf is better than none. But guess some have never been in the position of not having any loaf so they don't get it.

Not identified here by party--in fact, unless I am totally off base, town politicos in Herndon do not typically run under a national party. I admit I do not live in Herndon, but I do live in a neighboring county and my in-laws do live there.
I dont' disagree with the general message in the article and posting, but I think in this case the incumbents were liberal and would better fit under the Democratic label.
If I am wrong, I apoligize for not reseraching enough to find this out.

Don't pull any teeth you don't have to, Badray. Never know when you might need em. Look, it's really simple. Once the primary was over in PA, you had two choices. A liberal DEM who would NEVER vote with a GOP, and a liberal GOPer who sometimes does. Explain to me the upside of having the DEM instead of Specter. No one's given me that explanation yet. You said no one is suggesting that, but in a race between Specter and a DEM, where you're saying DON'T vote for Specter, who do you suppose is going to win? The Great Pumpkin?
To my mind, the real story of the Osborne primary loss was the general
NON-reporting of the event nationwide.
IMHO, the MSM didn't want a hint leaked out beyond the confines of Nebraska
that a candidate might have lost EVEN PARTLY due to his stance in favor
of illegal immigration.
(in the form of the in-state tuition to children of illegals).
I'm over in Missouri, am a news junky, and didn't hear a peep about
Osborne's defeat until someone posted an article here on the Sunday
following the vote.

Not only did we dump these two, and the other dozen or so around the state, in the dust up over the pay raise, we forced them to rescind the raise, we kicked out a SC justice seeking retention (and almost got a 2nd one), AND 30 other decided not to face the voters again and won't be running. 65 more face challengers in the fall. It's possible that we can have a turnover of 1/3 or more in the course of one year.
The bad news is that some good people got washed out in that tide, but I still think that we did the right thing.
This would be productive if they would get mad enough to run in the primaries but it sounds to me that they're more likely to stay home or vote Third Party, neither one of which does anything to advance our cause.
Who are your reps? Are they all RINO's?
It can keep good people in the chairmanships of committees, blocking bad legislation or advancing good legislation.
Maybe that's it. In all fairness, I actually voted 3rd party in the presidential race in 2000. The guy's slogan was "No Regrets", but just the opposite occurred. It was a pointless vote. I was young and foolish, and I learned my lesson. So it's not as if I'm extremely comfortable with even what passes for conservative in DC.
But I've accepted the fact that the only legitimate choice occurs in the GOP primary. After that, you just have to suck it up, unless you somehow think DEMs in power would be better. Or unless you just want to drop out and concede the whole thing.
