The followup replies on that site are hilarious. Besides the fact that they think they are trying to "save" America here are a few:

"I just watched some good people get made into fools. For the next months, everything they claim will be reputed with "got that from Leopold, did you?""

"Every time someone on a board mentions a FOX transgression, we get Dan Rather shoved down our throats!"

Truthout engaged in irresponsible "journalism." That's all there is to it. This story wasn't about Karl Rove, it was about positioning. Leopold wanted that headline, he wanted to be a "breaking news" superstar. Instead, he's now reaping the rewards of jumping the gun and posting a "news" story that wasn't "news" at all. Maybe Truthout can shift its focus and start doing movie reviews or celebrity gossip...they clearly can't handle politics in a responsible manner.

But, but, but, but ... the 24 hours isn't up yet. Those are 24 hours of the last two minutes of an NBA game, so each minute counts as 10 minutes.

See?! It's still 3 more real days until Fitzmas!!

Leopold and Loeb were right!

I read some of the replies on DU Funnies thread. A majority of posters went out and bought chanpagne at the news of Rove's demise.

Has anyone investigated if Dom Perignon is the source behind the rumor? Wait, make that Cold Duck being the source - it is DU.

I loved the first response:

This was a fine response. No apology needed. I am glad you took the risk and you confirmed my faith in you

Actually, they confirmed MY faith in them as well. Maybe I should thank them. :->

"Grieve's comments came before Ash posted his "partial apology" late Friday afternoon. In Washington, several of the nation's best investigative reporters spent the week trying, in vain, to confirm Leopold's story before concluding it was based on speculation, not fact, and wishful thinking, not truth.

"It's not the first time my editors have had me chasing one of Jason Leopold's red herrings but I sure as hell hope it's the last," one angry reporter told us Friday night. "Why anybody continues to hire this ****ing nutcase is beyond me."

What remains to be seen is whether or not Leopold, who has left a long trail of burned bridges, questionable sources and tarnished reputations, conned the editors at Truthout or if they, anxious to nail a known enemy, knowingly joined him in a sloppy excuse for journalism."

I've been steeling my stomach and keeping an eye on DU over this. Initially they were speculating that the MSM was burying the story, but that when it came out, it would explode over the front pages on Monday, no later than Tuesday. There were a few skeptics, but even they were hopeful that it was true.

Then the story didn't break, and they were rationalizing why Fitzgerald may have delayed "Fitzmas". Some of the really loony (more than a few, of course) thought that Bush had somehow gotten to the MSM to suppress it, or that the MSM is just a right wing cabal that would never let it see the light of day.

Yesterday, they were like a bunch of little kids who missed a party, and were consoling themselves that it wasn't that great a party anyway. A few die hards were saying that it will still happen, they just need to keep their spirits up. I love it when they have tears in their eyes, the kind you get when you've been smacked in the nose.

The writer of the "Rovinci Code" ~ Jason Leopold spent two years covering California's electricity crisis as Los Angeles bureau chief of Dow Jones Newswires. Jason has spent the last year cultivating sources close to the CIA leak investigation, and is a regular contributor to t r u t h o u t. He is the author of the new book NEWS JUNKIE. Visit www.newsjunkiebook.com for a preview.

Cultivating, Fabricating, hey, what's in a word.

In his 1st article he states that Rove was "given 24 hours to get his affairs in order" by Fritz.

I know Fritz sees himself as the Lone Ranger, but I don't think language like this is used anywhere but in the pages of DC Comics.....

That place is pathetic. I went there once after the Iraqi elections in Dec of 2005 when 10 million Iraqis came out to vote. One of the threads started off with some liberal saying he was sick to his stomach watching on CNN all the Iraqis celebrating and waving their purple fingers. He said he was so ill that he had to turn the TV off.

When asked by another poster why it bothered him so much he replied: "because GWB will see these people celebrating their freedom and will what to keep spreading freedom around the world."

At that point, it wasn't difficult to realize that those people are sick.

Okay, so let me get this straight.

Ash is apologizing by saying that what he said was accurate it's just not true yet?

Or is he saying that is true but not yet accurate yet?

I'm really confused. I have a feeling poor, deluded Ash is too.
