Concord cops show Kennedy insider inside of cruiser
Boston Herald ^ | May 19, 2006 | Gayle Fee and Laura Raposa

Apparently, being a former Kennedy speechwriter doesn’t carry quite the same cachet as actually being a Kennedy -at least when it comes to drunken-driving arrests.

Because Richard Goodwin, longtime family retainer who advised JFK, RFK and Ted Kennedy, was arrested in his hometown of Concord and charged with drunken driving after he plowed his car into a police cruiser. Ooooops!

Goodwin, 74, the hubby of historian Doris Kearns Goodwin and a legendary political player, was not given a ride home, a la Patrick Kennedy. Oh nooooo. He was arrested and taken to the Concord PD where he was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol (a second offense), operating to endanger and a marked-lane violation.

I haven't seen a pic of Richard Goodwin in a longtime, but as I recall, he is one ugly dude.

Was there a photo with the article?

Hey Doris is Don Imus's favorite plagerizing author. (Her other claim to fame (as she reminds any who will listen incessantly) is that she was LBJ's mistress (or at least one of them). IT has not been a good month for drunken RATS trying to play bumper cars with the police (Patrick tried but missed).

Everyone's talking about the priviliges shown Patrick Kennedy, but I have to ask whether or not any Congressman of either party would have been treated any differently? I don't think it was the name, it was the title.

Ask that Rep. GOP'er who was sentenced to 10 months in prison for some bogus phone-jamming "scandal".
Hit a cop-walk.
Destroy top secret documents-walk.
Slash tires on Repub. vans-walk.
Be a Repub.-go to jail.
Geesh

Drunken Kennedy is redundant.

From Time magazine, 1969:

As the [Chappaquiddick] crisis continued, the old Kennedy hands—Robert McNamara, Theodore Sorensen, Richard Goodwin, Kenneth O'Donnell and Burke Marshall, among others—crowded the famous Hyannisport compound, taking every spare bed. Only the house of Jacqueline Onassis, who was away, escaped service as a dormitory. One group of advisers, led by McNamara, strongly urged a full and immediate explanation. Finally, Ted agreed and the speechwriters—Sorensen, J.F.K.'s wordsmith; David Burke, Ted's administrative assistant; and Milton Gwirtzman, a Washington lawyer and Kennedy friend—began their work. By the time their output was broadcast, of course, much of the country was analyzing the case.
[emphasis added]

So he's one of the Kennedy "fixers" -- sycophants who wipes up the mess when a member of the Kennedy clan sh*ts his britches...

"Howie Carr needs to write a book on the Kennedys and their associates."

Possible titles:

"Do you know who I am!"

"Above the, ah, Law"

"Scandal, thy name is Kennedy"

It appears the old boy has turned into one of Camelot's court jesters and the town drunk. What a complete P.O.S.
