Iran eyes badges for Jews
National Post ^ | May 19, 2006 | Chris Wattie

Human rights groups are raising alarms over a new law passed by the Iranian parliament that would require the country's Jews and Christians to wear coloured badges to identify them and other religious minorities as non-Muslims.

"This is reminiscent of the Holocaust," said Rabbi Marvin Hier, the dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles. "Iran is moving closer and closer to the ideology of the Nazis."

Iranian expatriates living in Canada yesterday confirmed reports that the Iranian parliament, called the Islamic Majlis, passed a law this week setting a dress code for all Iranians, requiring them to wear almost identical "standard Islamic garments."

The law, which must still be approved by Iran's "Supreme Guide" Ali Khamenehi before being put into effect, also establishes special insignia to be worn by non-Muslims.

Iran's roughly 25,000 Jews would have to sew a yellow strip of cloth on the front of their clothes, while Christians would wear red badges and Zoroastrians would be forced to wear blue cloth.

"There's no reason to believe they won't pass this," said Rabbi Hier. "It will certainly pass unless there's some sort of international outcry over this."

Bernie Farber, the chief executive of the Canadian Jewish Congress, said he was "stunned" by the measure. "We thought this had gone the way of the dodo bird, but clearly in Iran everything old and bad is new again," he said. "It's state-sponsored religious discrimination."

Ali Behroozian, an Iranian exile living in Toronto, said the law could come into force as early as next year.

It would make religious minorities immediately identifiable and allow Muslims to avoid contact with non-Muslims.

Mr. Behroozian said it will make life even more difficult for Iran's small pockets of Jewish, Christian and other religious minorities -- the country is overwhelmingly Shi'ite Muslim. "They have all been persecuted for a while, but these new dress rules are going to make things worse for them," he said.

The new law was drafted two years ago, but was stuck in the Iranian parliament until recently when it was revived at the behest of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

A spokesman for the Iranian Embassy in Ottawa refused to comment on the measures. "This is nothing to do with anything here," said a press secretary who identified himself as Mr. Gharmani.

"We are not here to answer such questions."

The Simon Wiesenthal Centre has written to Kofi Annan, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, protesting the Iranian law and calling on the international community to bring pressure on Iran to drop the measure.

"The world should not ignore this," said Rabbi Hier. "The world ignored Hitler for many years -- he was dismissed as a demagogue, they said he'd never come to power -- and we were all wrong."

Mr. Farber said Canada and other nations should take action to isolate Mr. Ahmadinejad in light of the new law, which he called "chilling," and his previous string of anti-Semitic statements.

"There are some very frightening parallels here," he said. "It's time to start considering how we're going to deal with this person."

Mr. Ahmadinejad has repeatedly described the Holocaust as a myth and earlier this year announced Iran would host a conference to re-examine the history of the Nazis' "Final Solution."

He has caused international outrage by publicly calling for Israel to be "wiped off the map."

Iran does not yet have nuclear weapons, but Tehran believed by Western nations to be developing its own nuclear military capability, in defiance of international protocols and peace treaties.

The United States, France and Israel accuse Iran of using a civilian nuclear program to secretly build a weapon. Iran denies this, saying its program is confined to generating electricity.

If the Lame-stream media and the Charlitans who occupy the Federal Legislature do NOT condemn this TODAY and hold this Hitlerite to be just that, then they do not deserve to hold their office...I can't wait for Hillary to get "on board..." (Turning blue here...)

This goes way beyond bizarre. It's almost like the Iranian mullahs sit in a big circle-jerk with each one in turn trying to outdo the last speaker by suggesting an even more outrageous thing to announce to the world.

Another check mark in the book of "The Peaceful Religion of Islam".

When will the Libs of the world finally realize its a war between Islam and the rest of the world's religions?

What we need to do is make fun of the Iranians for being such wimpy Hitler wannabes.

The Iranian leadership are quite comic if you can put aside fears of them gaining nukes long enough to laugh at their pathetic attempts to gain stature through rhetorical posturing and scrambling to gain a nuclear weapon.

Now, if I were going to be angry I'd be mad at the Germans, French, and especially the Russians for selling weapons, technology, and information to the Iranians, further enabling their jihadist ambitions.

I'd be further incensed knowing that the Germans, Russians and French expect us to act without their public approval, thus keeping their hands clean while they act indignant at our actions. Meanwhile they congratulate one another in privacy on how they managed to turn a profit selling stuff to Iran (and Saddam) while getting someone else to clean up their mess.

Note: "official catalog of permissible dress"

We will need to have a separate thread later when this "catalog" comes out. Probably won't even need Photoshoppers....

http://www.investors.com/editorial/IBDArticles.asp?artsec=20&artnum=3&issue=20060516

"At the urging of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iran's parliament on Sunday approved an "Iranian dress code" for both sexes. The ministries of culture and commerce, the parliament's cultural commission and the state television authority will now work with mullahs, clothing designers and tailors on an official catalog of permissible dress.
This is extreme even by hard-line Islamic standards. In Saudi Arabia, where religious police enforce the female dress code, only a loose robe and head covering are required for women, not a face veil."

I don't really have a coherant response, but "Never again" wouldn't quite cover everything that comes to mind to prevent it. Best not to shock folks enough as to get banned.

I will:

Pray for the safety of our friends in harm's way.

Pray for our country and those fighting to protect it and our allies.

Pray for our leaders who are actually competent enough to recognize this threat and translate that into action against this monster in Iran.

Pray for the innocents in that region, and the Jews in and out of Israel threatened by this beast.

Pray for the intervention of God in this matter, and if it should be his will, that he may lower his almighty foot in the following manner right upon the beast's head like so, and that when it happens, somehow TV cameras will pick up a laugh track:

I'm not so sure he's wrong.

The guy seriously scares me worse than Saddam ever did. Let's face it, Saddam, for all his faults, was a buffoon. His delusions of grandeur were the normal stuff of 3rd World despots straight from the Idi Amin Dada mode. He was playing a game of bluff with the world and he overplayed his hand.

This guy is much worse. He's a TRUE BELIEVER in everything he says about Islam ruling the world, destroying Israel, the return of the 12th whosis -- the whole shmeer!

We had better get serious about taking him out soon. Because he is damn serious about what he says he is going to do.

Well, I am not amused. And I am offended that some of you want to make light of this report.

All I can think of is a poem (On Dover Beach), and a sad refrain from an old song (... and so it begins...)

We are either going to have to face the loss of endless numbers of our sons and daughters in an unending war to defeat these crazy people, or we are going to have to do the unthinkable, and annihilate so many innocents to protect our precious sons and daughters.

I think I would rather go lie down in the icy creek next winter, rather than face this awful choice bravely, and that is because I am a mother and a grandmother, who is quaking at what lies ahead in the next decade or so.

We have gone beyond hope, dear Freepers. We are now gazing into the horrible abyss. I am now truly afraid for our future, and it is time for us to decide. Are we Americans, or republicans and democrats, squabbling over votes, while the wolves are contemplating a nice feast?

What's alarming about this article is that it never mentions the Islamic tradition of dhimmitude. As horrendous as the holocaust was, dhimmitude is a slow and painful death of the spirit (and frequently a gruesome death when the mullahs choose to stir up the rabble). The good Rabbi would be better off focusing on more ancient history.

Iran is setting itself up as the center of the new caliphate in the minds of the Islamic ummah, increasing the threat that the tinder box of Muslims within the borders of the West will create havoc when Iran makes it move.

Oh *hit! Never again!

To me this is the "point of no return". It is impossible that the civilized world is tolerating such BS after Hitler. The only explanation of such behaviour is the beginning of a new holocaust.

I hate to say it, but it is obvious that something has to be done. We should not miss the right moment again. In 1934 Poland tried to convince France to do something effective against national socialism. France ousted the threat and we all know the bloody outcome. The choices are just as bad as they were right before WWII since the contemporary western world is not prepared to deal with such a strong country millitarily or in any other way. It will shake our economies to the basement.

There are a few issues where something should happen soon:

1. All trade with Iran has to be stopped.

2. All nations who do trade with Iran (Russia and China included) have to be punished by the whole western world.

3. Europe has to invest a reasonable sum of money into its forces again.

4. Israel has to be supported so that they are able to answer Iran in a suitable way as long as we want to avoid a nuclear conflict.

5. People from Iran who fight against the mullahs must have the possibility to get asylum in all western nations. Furthermore we have to give them all possible means like intelligence, weapons and bombs to overthrow the regime by themselves.

On the plus side, remember that most Muslims are Sunni and think the Shia are heretics and hence worse then infidels, and the shia retun the favor. Maybe promoting a Moslem civil war would not be a bad thing.....

Nothing to make light of at all. My heart broke as I read this.

No use going to hell to look for Satan any longer. If you can't find him personally, you sure won't have a problem finding his agent.

Well it's in the best interest of Iranian Muslims don't ya know, by making it easy to identify the infidels they'll know which shop windows to smash.

Hmmm, sound vaguely familiar.

Of course this will be followed by rounding them up and putting them in internment/concentration camps.

Wow am I confused, that would sound like a holocaust in the making and we know that could never (Did) happen, right President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad?
