Mexico opposes US fences

MEXICO will complain to the US government about plans to build fences and deploy troops along the border to curb illegal immigration, the foreign minister said yesterday.

Mexico has pushed for sweeping immigration reforms to help millions of Mexicans work legally in the United States but it fears Washington is more interested in keeping them out.

Luis Ernesto Derbez, the foreign minister, said Mexico would send a note protesting about plans to secure the 2,000-mile border, which hundreds of thousands of Mexicans cross every year in search of jobs.

"There are 12 million Mexicans on the other side, 12 million people who live every day in anguish about the need for a reform to let them live peacefully," he said.

The US Senate passed a bill that would see 370 miles of fences built at strategic points.

George Bush, the US president, was travelling to the border town of Yuma, Arizona, yesterday to press his case for tougher entry controls combined with reforms that would give millions of immigrants a chance to become US citizens.

All of this is a lie and they know it. More than 25 million illegals are here, most of them Mexican. They do NOT want to leave in peace, but to dominate and control. Mexico is NOT controlling anything going out on their side of the border, but is aiding and abetting illegal immigration for the purpose of "To Populate is to Govern". Where is our leadership? Who has backbone?

"There are 12 million Mexicans on the other side, 12 million people who live every day in anguish about the need for a reform to let them live peacefully," he said.

Then let them go back to the Mexican side of the fence, and they can live peacefully there, and if they want to come back, they will be welcome to do so, AFTER GETTING PERMISSION TO DO SO!

These people are like rude guests that treat your home like it's theirs and don't know when to go home.

Only they are not guests. They are trespassers.

Well, since the Constitution precludes you ever becoming president, you get my vote for "King."

Seriously, something you posted is really profound, and goes right to the heart of liberalism:

The matter of illegals is fundamental to the system of justice: what the pro-illegal lobby refuses to understand is that they are creating a precedent - they are basically suggesting that if enough people break a law, then that law is nullified. That undermines the rule of law itself.

This is one of the tenents of liberalism. The law is nothing more than "a guide." That's the idea behind the whole "the Consitution is a living document" nonsense. As someone who is far more brilliant than I once said, "if the Constitution doesn't mean what it says, then it means nothing." Liberals believe in the "rule of man" over the "rule of law," because they do not believe in absolutes. And this is what gives liberals the ability to be far more abusive of personal and human rights, since they can overlook those absolutes when it becomes convenient to their cause.

re :As opposed to a destabilized US? Which is exactly what they're going to get if they allow this invasion to continue unabated, and ignore the vast majority of actual citizens.

And thats the nub, which ever way he goes your President is going to have to bite the bullet.

I would go for stability in America at the expense of Mexico, but maybe he feels with a little tinkering he may be able to have both.

Like I said I am not an expert in this area.

And send the bill to Mexico!

Exactly...

Dear Mexico,

Feel free to keep sending us your uneducated, low skilled workers. However, the free ride is over. We will no longer be providing free social services to them. In order to pay the costs of those social services, starting today we will be billing you one (1) barrel of oil a day for every illegal alien you send here. Please start sending the 12 million barrels of oil a day to the nearest refinery.

Sincerely, Uncle Sugar Sam.

I wonder if we could replace the fence with alligator infested moats?

Well, it seems that the aligators of Florida have been practicing... Heck, I just heard that one of the gators is already moving west! Maybe they want to keep the illegal aliens out!

Given what's been going on in Venuzuala and Bolivia, it could get very ugly.

Maybe its an idea to throw away the Monroe doctrine in all its forms, seal the border and state quite clearly that South America is on its own.

Sort your own problems out.

So if the a fence is ineffective as FR's open-borders crowd tells us, then why is Mexico objecting?

Seems to me that they know fences are effective. Maybe we could ask the Israelis about it.

I wonder if the "12 million Mexicans on the other side, 12 million people who live every day in anguish about the need for a reform to let them live peacefully" have considered sending their concerns to Vicente Fox, the person whose failed policies and "leadership" are directly responsible for their anguish? Buried somewhere in the hundreds of sub-issues surrounding this mess is the idea that the United States is somehow directly responsible for providing a "peaceful life" for the 12 to 15 million people who illegally entered this country. People who are born on U.S. soil have no guarantee of a "peaceful life"...and yet we are being asked to write legislation to guarantee it for illegals?

Armed with machine guns and they do shoot.

They're very selective about border security. None on the north, pretty much shoot-to-kill on the south.

What I think should be the reply follows.

To His Most Excellent Luis Ernesto Derbez, Foreign Minister of the United Mexican States:
Esteemed sir,
We have received your complaint of the 19th of this month, and though we sympathize with the plight of your countrymen in the United States, we must remind you that the foundation of good relations between nations is to respect each others borders and internal affairs inasmuch as international conventions and basic humanitarian considerations do not intervene.
In the case of your twelve million nationals here, we would say that they are welcome; however, it shows a great disrespect for the internal laws of the United States of America to cross our border without asking permission. It is also a great disrespect to falsify the identities of American citizens to obtain work. Although many of your citizens can plead necessity, it does not lessen the offense against American law and propriety.
Your citizens are welcome, as long as they ask permission to come and permission is granted. If your nation persists on these practices of officially encouraging crossing our borders without our say-so, we in the United States could withdraw our permission.
You mistake our graciousness for weakness. As you discourage Guatemalans from crossing into Mexico, so may we discourage Mexicans from crossing into the United States.
The choice is yours, Your Excellency. Work with us and ensure our mutual happiness (or at least a minimum of mutual dissatisfaction), or face sterner measures, such as a wall crossing from Tijuana to Matamoros.
I remain Your Excellency's most humble servant,
Condoleeza Rice.
