The Dems' Dark Side
Investors Business Daily ^ | 5/18/06 | staff

Politics: Among the truly astonishing aspects of the Democrats' foreign policy is how much of it comes out of the Vietnam playbook. It's a dark vision, one that anticipates defeat in Iraq.

This vision clouds their effort to cobble together their own version of the Republicans' creative "Contract with America," which led to the GOP storming Capitol Hill in 1994. That famous victory ended four decades of legislative domination by the Democrats.

Just maybe, Sen. Harry Reid and Rep. Nancy Pelosi figure, this time their party needed only 12 years to retake the fortress. The Senate and House minority leaders propose a "contract" with voters — college and health care for everyone, a climate-controlled world, deficit reduction, and so on — that, while glib, conceals motives far less honorable.

The war on terrorists, if not exactly taking a back seat, seems not to be quite the priority the Bush administration has made it. Sure, party talkers will show up on cable to emphasize their superior handling of terrorism. After all, didn't they force the massively bureaucratic Department of Homeland Security on us?

Good article. But the title assumes that the Dems have a not so dark side. Everything they do and say has been pathetic and anti-american (with exception of Zell Miller, and Lieberman and Bayh on ocassion) for the past 10 years.

"After all, didn't they force the massively bureaucratic Department of Homeland Security on us?"

WHOOO HOOO!!!

Someone else besides me remembers? Someone else remembers that Dubya fought this? Someone else notes that DHS is horrible? That most of Dubya's failures (FEMA, immigration, Iraq WMDs, leaks, etc) have come from DHS?

DHS needs to be broken up and the parts put back where they came from.

When the Democratic leadership ignores every stride toward a workable constitution in Iraq, indeed trumpets every setback, you have to ask: Do they want defeat?

I don't have to ask; I know.

Try living in MA! We are now the Gay State. One of our Senators actually murdered a woman by drowning, The other can't wait to claim that He also killed at that time because of Viet Nam.
They have been fabricating the actual truth to power for years and people actually vote for them!!

I could not agree more. Either that, or make the DHS a group of 200 bright intelligence and securtity experts to analyze the CIA and DIA and NSA data and get rid of the other 75,000 dead wood bodies.

If the dems do win anything it won't be because of talentless hacks like Pelosi. 12 years ago free healthcare seemed impossible but the false security so many want seems more prevelent than ever. Perhaps people will want this for good, I don't know. What they don't have is any answers on anything. You would think the other major party would have some but they are completely empty and have all resorted to Jon Stewart being their hero.

Hooray!! Short memories all.

W was initially against it. The Dems pouted and W and the Pubs finally gave in. Same with federalizing the airport screeners.

The Culture of Death DemocRATS' "dark side" is also their best side. You really don't want to see their other side.

Defeat is the Democrats' playbook. Many of them want us to lose in the Middle East.

I would have to say that it's probably a majority that do. As Rush likes to say, "what's good for America is bad for the democrats".
