Muslim's Loss of Dutch Citizenship Stirs Storm
The New York Times ^ | May 18, 2006 | MARLISE SIMONS

PARIS, May 17 — The Dutch immigration minister's decision to cancel the citizenship of a Somali-born Dutch legislator has set off a political storm in the Netherlands, with Parliament demanding that the move be revoked.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a Somali-born Dutch legislator, said Tuesday that she would leave Parliament.

Wide-ranging coverage of Russia and the former Soviet republics, updated by The Times's Moscow bureau.

At the center of the storm is Ayaan Hirsi Ali, 36, who gained fame — and received death threats — while campaigning against militant Islam and opposing the abuse she said Muslim women suffered even in Europe.

On Tuesday, after being informed that her Dutch passport was being withdrawn, she announced her resignation from Parliament and said she would leave for the United States sooner than she had planned. What had earlier prompted her to decide to go to the United States, she said, was that in April, an appeals court ordered her to leave her apartment. Her neighbors had sued her, saying her presence made the apartment building unsafe.

This is the email I sent to the Dutch embassy in DC yesterday morning:

17 May 2006

Ambassador Boudewijn van Eenennaam
Minister Wim Geerts
Coordinator Management & General Affairs USA Wim Henskens
Political Counselor Caspar Veldkamp
Minister René van Hell
Counselor Simon van der Burg
Counselor Jeanne Wikler

Honorable Ambassador, Counselors, and Minister of the Netherlands:

It is with great distress and disappointment that I've read of the domestic problems lately endured by your Parlimentarian Ms. Hirsi Ali.

There is no need to recount Ms. Ali's history, her political positions, or her current difficulties. You, and we - the free world - know what those are.

What is most disappointing is that Ms. Ali cannot find refuge and safety in what many consider to be the world's most tolerant culture: that of the Netherlands. Her current detractors in your Parliament and in (for example) your Immigration Ministry are making clear what the cost of Dutch "tolerance" actually is: silence.

It is probably best that Ms. Ali be silenced in a land where her voice is unprotected by the Dutch government and is bound to see her killed by religious fanatics. We are happy to have Ms. Ali join us in America, where she will be able to speak and write freely and without fear for her safety. The Netherlands will be free to return to the illusion of "tolerance" and "multiculturalism."

I think it appropriate that the U.S. government grant Ms. Ali refugee status from a Dutch government which cannot or will not protect her freedoms from the cult of murderers and maniacs which now inhabit your country.

My wife and I have airline tickets purchased some time ago, to visit Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum this summer, as well as several other European countries.

But your government's treatment of Ms. Hirsi Ali is repellent to our views of freedom and liberty, and indeed a shocking refutation of Dutch tolerance. For that reason, we will be cancelling our tickets to the Netherlands, and we do not expect to include your country in any travel plans for the forseeable future.

Respectfully,

"Ms. Hirsi Ali, who has remained outspoken despite the death threats, worked with the Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh on a short film depicting the abuse of Muslim women, for which Mr. van Gogh was killed by a Muslim militant in 2004."

Forgot to add this from the article.

Outstanding.

And I hasten to add that this legal immigrant will be welcomed into America with open arms.

When I read the headline I thought for a second there was a glimmer of hope. The Dutch must have death wish.

"Her neighbors had sued her, saying her presence made the apartment building unsafe."

In unrelated news, Ann Frank was removed from her hiding place in a Dutch home after neighbors complained that her presence made the adjacent buildings unsafe.

She is welcome to come stay with me. I doubt any rag wearing islamofacist will get within 500 ft of her before catching a .30-06 slug. If I don't get them my dogs will.

The Dutch are more and more becoming dhimmi in their own nation. The Immigraiton Minister was likely pressured by the islamofacists into making this decision, hoping this woman would be deported to a country where sharia law would deal with her blasphemy. Just MHO.

We need to make her a citizen QUICK and get her into OUR legislature. She's moving to New York? I seem to recall there's a senate seat up there this fall and she'd make a vast improvement on the current occupant.

Apparently Ms. Hirsi Ali is no longer a Muslim. She's an atheist.

The Dutch loss is our gain.

That's usually the case with Europe. We take their brains and leave them their pains.

IIRC, Michael Medved mentioned that during the trial of Theo van Gogh's
murderer...there was a substantial amount of court deliberations over
a very serious matter.
To figure out if the murderer would retain his voting rights.

(I don't know the outcome...this sort of insanity was the real story!)
