I have no problem with a guest worker program as long as it doesn't include any illegals. And as long as Mexicans and non English speaking people are not over represented. And only a small minority are "unskilled" workers.

If the fence is too small to be effective the conclusion will be that fences don't work. Not that we need more fences.

Our leadership is dedicated with bringing the illegals out of the shadows. Only the House can save us from this "leadership".

Land mines would be cheaper. Watch towers every 200 yards
with searchlights and machine gun, plenty of razor wire,
problem solved.

Bush signed the REAL ID Act which gives the DHS the authority to waive environmental restrictions to complete parts of the fence that money was already appropriated for. In addition, he supported Sensenbrenner's House Bill for the 700 miles of fencing. The Senate is whining that the fence will cost too much and will "send the wrong message to our neighbors". I am disappointed that they reduced the mileage on the fencing, but we can't blame Bush for that one.

King said Rove told lawmakers Bush is sincere about enforcement. But, he added, “The president doesn’t want to enforce immigration law because he’s afraid he’ll inconvenience someone who wants to come into the country for a better life.”

It's a little ambiguous but it's King's interpretation not from Rove. Although I could easily believe Bush would say something like that.

The part about Bush being sincere when it comes to enforcement is ludicrous. Bush has never, till now, even talked about enforcement or done anything concrete about it.

For all you that don't know how this game works, the House ask for 700 miles, the Senate ask for 300 miles and in the end they walk away with 500 miles. Just a bit of info, 60% of the border is naturally uncrossable without a vehicle and the result for trying is death.

This is a time to be vociferously clear about what we demand. And vociferously clear about the consequences if we are ignored.

I'm with you. No more going along, rah rah, vote Republican.

If it is Amnesty Si!, it is Vote No!.

At this point, no bill is better than ANY bill that has a legalization provision. I'd rather give up on employer sanctions, border wall, repatriation, etc ie preserve the status quo, than to cave on amnesty.

I basically agree with you. The only problem is this is exactly what GW has been doing the least 5 years. Leaving the border wide open to create a fair accompli, a situation where it would be "impossible, inhumane to deport 12 million". Actually a lie since it's more like 20 million illegal alien invaders and we can make them self-deport via employer sanctions. Which GW has purposely not enforced since he was first elected

George Bush only enforces the laws he likes!

More jobs for Mexicans!

Probably. But we could go ahead and raise taxes to cover the higher wages paid to union workers.

Don't shoot the messenger.

i?If the illegals are smart and I'm guessing they are... they won't pass where the fence is at.

Triple layer fence...Sounds like a wire fence...so the criminals have to snip 3 times instead of once...hmmm

The point is too redirect illegals into areas that are either physically more dificult to cross or are easier to guard. I tink the 370 miles is a great start.

Mexican immigrants walk in line through the Arizona desert near Sasabe, Sonora state, in an attempt to illegally cross the Mexican-US border, April 2006.

The Senate blinks first. They must be sweating up there to even consider PARTIAL fencing.

No deal.
