Come on, you know what I am talking about. Private initiative. That is what I am talking about. Wal-Mart didn't have to get FEMA's clearance to get their stuff in the Katrina zone. Private companies taking bids from any government can be pains takingly slow as if the government was doing the work themselves.

We are all aware of how the big dig payed for veterans counseling and union vacations and every other thing then the dig itself, just as this "wall" will have riders for trips to and graft for?
Good point.

Do you have a link to show that includes fences and walls already built?
Doesn't mean much, from the picture's on TV, the current walls are a mess and need to be torn down and rebuilt, per the walls pictured above.

That's good news, but I'm not satisfied because it's NOT enough. It won't stop the illegals. It will just shift the AZ crossers into NM and TX!

I thought the wall/fencing around San Diego was working quite well?
Anyway, we shall see what happens.

I was wondering how long it would take before someone cracked that joke. I have my answer: 24 seconds.
It's nice to see that everyone is on the ball today!

"Is this the same country that built the Hoover Dam, the Panama Canal, that built the Empire State building in about 14 months? The one that was at nearly zero aircraft produce before WWII and was producing hundreds of thousands of aircraft within 3 years? The one that mounted the Normandy invasion? Is this the country that built the interstate highway system? That put a man on the moon in the span of one decade's effort?" Great post.
I think a big difference is the accomplishments you listed are one thing. Leadership. JFK had a passion for the moon landing, etc. I think if you look back at our greatest accomplishments, it's because whoever was leading the nation at the times led w/passion and we responded in kind. I believe that's what's missing here. Of course we can build a wall along the entire border - if our leadership really wanted to.

Senate Votes to Build 370-Mile Triple-Layered Fence on Mexican BorderWhich will probably consist of 1,480 quarter-mile segments separated by a mile of open land.
No, I'm not cynical.

Right. I wrote four letters last night. We just need to keep pushing (not whining) for more protection on the border.
We also need to redefine the terms of the debate. The primary issue is not legal or illegal immigration. The primary issue is national security.

This is a good beginning, and I am cautiously optimistic...
"
I agree 100%...I live 7 miles north of the border and this is a huge step in the right direction. The bottom-line is that if the fence they build works to stop the crossings, then the pressure to extend it will be unstoppable!
Ok! So define to me what is a triple layer fence?? And the fence they built in california doesn't stop jack.

"They'll force the Amnesty towel down our collective throats if they must" Only if we heed the warning from Bush regarding the "tone" of the debate.
The Senate is lost. Too many craven politicians. We can work to politically exterminate them at election time. All efforts must shift to the House. They our the last hope.
They must understand that the ugly voices of the illegals are nothing compared to the fury of the American people. They must clearly understand that they will face this fury if they reward those who disrespect our sovereignty and laws.
This is not time to be polite. This is a time to be vociferously clear about what we demand. And vociferously clear about the consequences if we are ignored.

"Don't worry, it will get built. This project is going to turn into a bottomless barrel of pork." Halliburton has the contract to build the fence sewn up. They will start as soon as the DUmmie detention centers are finished.
