TO: Respondents on the Ward Churchill Investigation

FROM: Barrie Hartman Interim Spokesperson University of Colorado at Boulder

SENDER: University Communications

DATE: May 16, 2006

SUBJECT: Churchill Report

Since you previously contacted us about your concerns regarding CU Professor Ward Churchill, we wanted to update you on another important step that has been taken in this case.

The Standing Committee on Research Misconduct is ready to release the findings from a 120-day investigation into charges of plagiarism and misrepresentation of research fact.

Those findings from the five-member investigative committee are being released this afternoon and can be obtained from the following web link at http://www.colorado.edu/news/reports/churchill/.

The next step is for the Standing Committee to review the findings plus Professor Churchill's response to those findings. Then it will prepare recommendations for what actions, if any, should be taken by the Provost and Dean of Arts and Sciences.

The process has been long and thorough, but the rules governing investigations of alleged research misconduct are strict, and we have adhered to them every step of the way. Thank you for your interest and support.

I think this is a referendum on where UC gets its money. If big alumni $ wants him gone, he's gone.

The guy was a phony from the get go and I'm sure his PhD is bogus too.

Big Chief Two-White-Parents was on local TV last night claiming that his problems are part of nationwide evil governmental pressure on hundreds of professors and their free speech rights. Unfortunately, the interviewing reporter didn't have enough sense to ask, "Yeah? Name three."

He also claimed there was no evidence whatsoever that he did any of the wrongful things enumerated in the report. He had no comment on the fact that the investigating commission was made up of his peers, university professors, not goverment spooks.

He has no Phd, he has a MBA in Graphic Arts. How this degree qualified him to teach Ethnic Studies and head that dept is still a mystery no one at CU seems to be anxious to explore.

I wonder why.

I don't think he even has a PhD. That alone should disqualify him from his department chair position.

I belive it goes to the trustees, and Chutch can appeal to the President, and then I think the Regents get a say in there someplace. Any responsibility must be spread as thin as poosible, so no one takes blame.

Just like no one will take the blame for how this fake Indian became a dept head with an MBA in an unrelated field.

Maybe that kind of stuff is OK at a tiny college in the sticks, but not at the leading school in the People's Republic of Boudler, Colorado. (Known in Colorado as "35 square miles surrounded by reality.")

I didn't know he had a PhD. He got his BA and Masters from some blow-off, now defunct university in Illinois.

The investigative committee concluded that Churchill is a liar (fabrication) and a plagiarist. I don't see how they can avoid firing him.

Fox had his lawyer on today, and he claims that the state has to pay his legal bills (up to $20,000) while he fights the school on this. That's rather sickening I would say.
