"I would just like to get some better GOP in the Senate and discourage Bush from doing anything worse on this issue for now.

"That is all that can be done."

With that I agree 100 percent.

However, President Bush is not, never has been and did not campaign as a "conservative". He's a moderate and never pretended to be anything else. He's extremely conservative only on SOME issues, pretty conservative on some others and middle of the road on all the rest, which is probably most. Being in line with the core conservatives is not tantamount to him announcing "I am a conservative, vote for me"

You're right... in fact, I think I remember his campaign slogan: "Commpassionate moderate"...

No, that's not it; help me out here.

Many confused his faith for conservatism. I did that myself.

And compared to Gore/Kerry, he sure looked pretty conservative.

He will be remembered fondly by me for taxes, judges and WOT balls....and other lesser stuff

Immigration and us having to force Alito on him are bitter. That's all. I could bitch about a few other issues but those are the two that aggravate me...oh yeah....and claiming he'd sign the Assault Weapons Ban....not cause I want a LAWS rocket or anything but on principle.

When I supported him I never thought in the end that I would view his departure with such ambivalence.
