IMMIGRANT SIGN THIEF MUST BID ADIOS TO U.S. (gave cops false ID)
NY POST ^ | May 17, 2006 | KIERAN CROWLEY and BILL SANDERSON

Posted on 05/17/2006 4:14:35 AM PDT by Liz

A Mexican teen who swiped an anti-immigration sign from a Southampton protester got more than he bargained for when he was busted - he'll now be deported....Joel Martines, 18, is accused of grabbing a sign from an anti-illegal immigration protester, where immigrants gather to wait for work - and protesters regularly gather to oppose their presence.

It turned out that Martines was wanted on an illegal-immigration warrant by ICE. After his arraignment on charges of fourth-degree theft and giving police a false identity, Martines was handed over to federal authorities.

He got deported for giving the cop a false ID and not for crossing the boarder illegally?

Who sets this priority?

At least he'll give the National Guard some paperwork to fill out if he gets caught on one of his return trips. I feel more secure knowing the Guard is serving such a vital function. /s

Slightly off topic, but I am listening to Senator Jeff Sessions on Bill Bennett's radio program and it might be a good idea to contact his office and thank him for the work he is doing on the immigration issue. He really is doing the heavy lifting (actually reading the bill, which most of them don't) and today will introduce an amendment requiring construction of a fence, which he thinks has a chance of passing.

I don't know how long we'll have to wait, but this figure of 12 million illegals is so false I want to scream. At LEAST 20 million illegals are here and more likely 27-28 million. I am so tired of seeing the 12 million figure bandied about.

"The actual figure is much lower."

Facts? Statistics? Documentation? Some proof perhaps?

Enlighten us please. Thank you.

It has to do with the way the number of illegal aliens is estimated. Used to be they'd count US money orders cashed at Mexican border post offices. In recent years illegals have begun using other methods making the old technique obviously invalid.

Frequently you will see a count based on a multiple of the number of illegals caught at the border ~ since we didn't catch all those other folks we don't really know. This number is "soft".

We also have a count on the number of people entering the country with a visa, and the number of visa holders leaving the country. The "difference" arises, in general, from those who overstay their visas and become "illegal aliens".

We also have folks who dig into the entrails of employment figures used by Commerce Department and attempt to estimate "percentages" of illegals.

None of these systems is all that reliable, and the error factors are very large.

The only way we can ever know for sure is to change our laws so that only lawful residents may rent or buy housing, purchase food and food byproducts, drive cars, purchase clothing, work jobs, get in out of the rain, or warm themselves by the fire in winter.

Sessions was interviewed on FNC late yesterday afternoon. He stated that the bill is 600 + pages long and yes that he was reading it.

Now, isn't that enlightening. Didn't Bush just state in his speech that the NG was being sent to the border to do just that? Again Bush was "firing for effect". It appears fence building has neither been approved nor funded.

Just how much of his speech was truthful?

LOL.......true, but we don't need little steps like this to rid ourselves of these parasites.

Once we nail employers, lawmakers, public officials and government employees for violating our laws, allowing these invaders to get govt benefits, jobs, etc, with false documents.....the parasite party will be over.

Since you have taken my comment relating to Senator Sessions amendment as an inidcation that the President was lying in his speech the other night, let me be more clear, which I should have been in the first place. Senator Sessions' amendment provides for additional fencing in towns along the border where it is not currently authorized or existing. There are areas where approved fencing has not been built and other areas where existing fencing is damaged and needs to be replaced. There are also some fences constructed in such a way as not to be helpful to the border patrol and which needs to be replaced with double or triple fencing that can be seen through. This is the fencing work to which the President undoubtedly referred.
