CNN Poll [John Podhoretz] David Frum, the smartest man I know, got it wrong. CNN has a poll just up, and the results are staggeringly in the president's favor. 79 percent of those who watched had a very favorable or favorable view of the speech, and those who support the president's policies rose in number from 42 to 67 percent. To uninformed Americans who took his comments on the border and employment enforcement seriously, yes, well received. Americans 2 to 1 support what is in HR 4437, the House Republican bill.
Informed people know that the critical issues are 1) seriousness about enforcement and fixing borken deportation system and 2) whether we are going to have 'amnesty' or similar surrenders .. Bush put up the white flag on that.
"To judge from reactions to the speech, however, there are some conservatives willing to be fooled fifteen thousand times. Still, there is an interesting division within the reactions. Those who follow the immigration debate closely were almost uniformly derisive about the speech. They know the details behind the rhetoric: for instance, that the presidents assurance that illegals will have to go to the back of the line behind legal immigrants actually means that they will be given the right of U.S. residency right away. Those who tuned in to the debate only recently, presumably most Americans, take the misleading rhetoric seriously. That is why the initial reception to the speech is likely to be more approving than the final verdict of most Americans when they learn that it promises the arrival of at least 103 million more people in the next 20 years and additional costs to the U.S. taxpayer of $30 billion annually. At leastin both cases."
Your right on. The Senate bill must be killed. The House bill is the only way to go. Keep calling your Rep and make it plain what you want.
GWB gave a very good speech last night that addressed the issues surrounding this debate and pushed forth common sense policies at addressing these problems.
"and is amnesty"
"So how does it feel to call Bush a liar?"
How bad does it feel to know he pulled a "Clinton"?
For me, pretty bad indeed. I'm heartsick over his semantic game.

I think I'll wait for a real poll before I jump to any conclusions...
I think the thought is that if CNN, who are biased against President Bush, publish a poll that favors him, it is hard to deny, because they would not fabricate a favorable poll of the President
Not if they back a white minority agenda, I can promise you that.
But with the Democrats seemingly behind Bush's "no border security before amnesty" position, maybe he'll drag the Democrats down with him if the conservatives in the House remain strong. If that happens, I'll tip my hat to a great poker player.
Sorry, putting the issue aside for the moment, I dont buy these polls. CBS has NEVER given Bush 82% before unless it was negative for him. They have ALWAYS manipulated the polls, why would they not manipulate this one? The positive results only help the dems in the long term. Illegals do NOT vote republican.
I've never bought cnn and cBS polls before and I'm NOT biting now. If it were 55%, I would atleast think it may be possible.
don't know if this was posted, but about a half hour ago, Fox's newscrawl said that Mexico had announced that they plan to sue in US courts if the National Guard injures any Mexican migrants. They might have said, 'interferes' with, but either way, how's them apples!
It benefits the dems. No surprise that cnn and cBS would manipulate them.
My Italian American friend...dual citizenship, mindset pure Italy, thinks we're nuts, committing suicide. Even Italy knows better than this. She's said that Italy has a big, big problem with African immigrants whose public behavior boggles the mind.
W not a poll hound, but when he sees how much this helps his image it will be hard to resist not putting even more effort into immigration controls.
Who doesn't like being liked, after all.
*rolls eyes*
Oh, that was clever. :P
Ok, check back in the fall. I've been right on for three straight elections, and I mean, down to the SEAT.
Uninformed or disinterested? In 2004 I never saw one national poll that showed immigration in the top 5, 6 or even 7 issues among voters. You might have the media spotlight and the non-stop harangue of the talk show hosts, but I'm still not convinced you have a ballot box priority.
And don't kid yourself, there are plenty of people who follow this closely and don't require a cynical decoder ring to understand what was said last night. The devil is in the details to be sure, but the executive branch is not writing the legislation, they are not the center of action at the moment.
Hahaha..
A recent immigration reform bill passed by the House in December is drawing sharp criticism for its provision mandating the construction of a fence along the nearly 2,000 mile U.S.-Mexican border. President Bush has spoken in favor of the bill authored by Rep. F. James Sensenbrenner (R-Wisc.), known as the Border Protection, Antiterrorism and Illegal Immigration Control Act of 2005. Bush has already signed legislation appropriating more than $70 million to install new barriers and improve existing protective infrastructure along the border. This includes fencing as well as vehicle barriers and lighting to enhance border security. That being said...hubby was negative before the speech, but applauded once during the speech and seemed happy afterwards. As for me...it doesn't matter what I say...heck, everyone knows I'm just a Bushbot, LOL!The Senate is holding it up. Misplaced anger abounds on here. Contact your Senators, don't blame Bush, he supports the fence.
did you make this part up?
