CNN Poll (Good news 4 Bush supporters)
National Review ^

Posted on 05/16/2006 10:35:33 AM PDT by greenpagan

CNN Poll [John Podhoretz] David Frum, the smartest man I know, got it wrong. CNN has a poll just up, and the results are staggeringly in the president's favor. 79 percent of those who watched had a very favorable or favorable view of the speech, and those who support the president's policies rose in number from 42 to 67 percent. "In real life, I only know one person who sounds remotely like a freeper on this issue. VERY few people are as hateful as the hysterics and very few are willing to abandon their party and hence their country over this issue."

Very true. If you read FR, you'd think that people would be leaving the GOP in droves. That's just not the case.

How come when a CNN poll goes against Bush everyone says it's because CNN is inherently biased, then when it goes Bush's way it must be true? Either CNN is biased or it isn't. Pick a position and stick to it. I'll stay with pro-biased, including when they say everyone was wildly supportive of Bush's "I can't believe it's not amnesty" plan.

There are two families who are democrats in this neighborhood (soon to be one - one is moving). One of those families are Michael Moore democrats.

They support the president's plan. All the Republicans I know in town (and I know a bunch) support the plan with one exception. A woman I know is totally opposed to it and another one can't make up her mind (she's a mushy moderate).

One is a lurker on FR and when I had lunch with her last week and mentioned FR she asked what the heck is going on and said she no longer even looks here.

I'd like to see how the poll was conducted. If it was done like this one...Poll: Bush wins converts among speech-watchers
...then I might put some credence in it. How the questions are asked is of importance as well.
If it was an internet poll I'm not believing it.

First time in my life I've seen alleged "leaders" have to be kick started

Really? You're either pretty young or you haven't been paying attention. :)

"and is amnesty"

So how does it feel to call Bush a liar?

Call, write, harass. We did it with Miers, we did it with the ports deal (I actually favored that one), and we can do it with this bill.

So you are saying they are going to get more Republicans elected this year, correct? Because the only thing holding down GOP numbers---according to the Freepers---is the President's poll numbers.

I'm saying the MSM will give Bush a temporary bump to persuade him he's on the right track with his disastrous amnesty plan.

It's not always the best thing to shut up and stay out of the way when your enemy is self-destructing. Some encouragement or prodding can help things along.

In real life, I only know one person who sounds remotely like a freeper on this issue. VERY few people are as hateful as the hysterics and very few are willing to abandon their party and hence their country over this issue.

I am in complete agreement with you. I seriously don't know anyone personally who is acting like a number of Freepers are regarding this issue..(completely going off the deep end)..and I work in a field where security is the major job description -

The reality is on the whole more and more people understand this is a 40 year in the making problem...one in which good people can clearly come to differing conclusions on how best to solve it....and there is room for compromise.

Those now on the right who are trying to move the goal post (a la the DEMs / MSM) and say "no other action other then the border first" are simply wrong and acting foolish on this issue.

Dealing with all 5 points that President GWB described is exactly the right course of action and on the whole the majority of the American public agree with him.

"KEEP IT UP."

I agree...keep fighting for the fence/wall, and fighting against Amnesty. Your Congressman is listening, even if the President is not.

The only reason I voted for Bush was to keep Kerry out of the White House...And as much as I don't like the guy, here he is stealing Bush's thunder...And from the Swamp, no less... http://newsblogs.chicagotribune.com/news_theswamp/2006/05/kerry_to_bush_s.html

Well, mark my words. The GOP will gain---GAIN---1-2 seats in the Senate and 1-5 seats in the House in the fall.

"
He showed the world that Americans are a people of caring and love, not a nation to shut out those who need us, but at the same time, we are a nation of laws and won't reward lawbreakers. They will have to pay a price for coming here illegally."

How is rewarding lawbreakers with citizenship and punishing the low-wage workers here by subjecting them to competition from millions of impoverished immigrants
'caring and love'?

You said: So now CNN polls matter?

Ok just so I get the rules, if it's good news, it's a reliable poll. If it's low numbers, it's never been right?

Gotcha.
***

I think the thought is that if CNN, who are biased against President Bush, publish a poll that favors him, it is hard to deny, because they would not fabricate a favorable poll of the President. That is not an inconsistent position.

Statements made against one's own self-interest are generally pretty reliable.
