...reduce criminals to enter the country illegally or enter legally but remain here illegally.

Makes sense to most of us.

...the government of Mexico uses the US as their penal system...

Fox learned well from Castro's example.

Illegals are far more likely to be the dregs of society than those who earn their way honorably and play by the rules.

During President George W. Bush's televised speech on the issue of illegal immigration, not once did he mention the hordes of criminals entering the United States and preying upon American citizens.

He mentioned crime and criminals four times.

The Sierra Times hears what it wants to hear...and then issues forth with its usual moaning and weeping and hand-wringing...

From the President's last night address - Paragraph #6:

"Our objective is straightforward: The border should be open to trade and lawful immigration - and shut to illegal immigrants, as well as criminals, drug dealers, and terrorists."

He did say anyone trying to remain here would have a background check for criminal activity. This article is like Durbin's pile of crap - Ready, fire, aim.

Next time, listen to the speech first. Otherwise you'll be the Bravo Sierra Times.

And the President had the chutzpah to inform us Mexico is a friend last night! What friend makes us pay the full costs of imprisoning THEIR criminals who commit crimes upon our citizens and their property? I didn't hear a word from Bush about sending Mexico the bill for the damage. Just think about what better purposes that money could have gone to had the President really been serious about securing our borders for good.

You have to have some compassion for these criminals. They are not allowed to vote in their own country and they only come here to take part in our guest voter program.

"The percentage of all federal prisoners who are criminal aliens has remained the same over the last 3 years--about 27 percent."

If this is indeed accurate, its absolutely astounding.

No wonder you won't hear this figure in "polite company"...

This story is not exactly true, Bush did mention increased crime as one of the impacts of illegal aliens, but he could of emphasized it much more. Case being:

On the Washington State Patrol 21 Most Wanted List list 17 of them are Hispanics not born in America and most likely illegal. And if you look at their photos on the WSP web site you can see they are a pretty gruesome bunch.

Bush Speech Ignores Criminal Aliens

Well, it was a nice 17 minutes reviewing the virtues, values and contributions of legal immigrants...
It was heartwarming.

Looking at the bright side, he did not refer to the undocumented immigration officers as "vigilantes" once...

Here is the line from the speech where Bush mentions the increased crimes. He did not "ignore criminal aliens" in the speech, though I wish he emphasized more on how many of the most wanted criminals are illegal aliens, See my Washington State Patrol MOST WANTED list post.

Once here, illegal immigrants live in the shadows of our society. Many use forged documents to get jobs, and that makes it difficult for employers to verify that the workers they hire are legal. Illegal immigration puts pressure on public schools and hospitals, strains state and local budgets, and brings crime to our communities.

I guess the author didn't listen - the President did, in fact, mention the higher rates of crime due to some of the illegals. He also mentioned the drain on the States and their medical and education systems.

So many have howled about their #1 priority being the control of the borders, then worrying about illegals already here, but they always find room to jump on the Dim/MSM bandwagon when it comes to carping about what's not happening to their liking. It reminds me of the folks that got mad at Jesus for healing on the Sabbath and mad at the cripple that Jesus healed and told to, "pick up his mat and walk" for working on the Sabbath by actually picking up his mat and walking. They were so full of their self-righteousness that they failed to see the real miracle.

It seems that many folks here suffer the same malady - the President finally tries to do something about the borders and people howl that it's not enough, or too little too late (even though we haven't had an attack due to the borders being so "open"), or that it will cost money (I guess they want it all to happen magically). All you who want "all or nothing" should remember that the Dims will accept "just enough" in order to wrest power from the repub majority and the Whie House and then we'll be out of the pan and back into the fire as they cut and run from Iraq, kiss Iran's nuclear butt, cancel all tax cuts and start raising taxes on everything, and show us what real out-of-control spending looks like. Try to remember that the Dims make noises about balancing the budget, but despite the Prez spending far too much on many social programs, their biggest howls are about the "draconian cuts and underfunding" of these same projects.

I hope for my sake you don't all get what you seem to be asking for.

I just sent a new fax to my senators from numbersusa.com...

Dear Senator,

I was extremely disappointed by the President's immigration speech.

A recent Zogby poll shows that the enforcement-only approach of H.R. 4437, which most House Republicans supported in December, is the approach favored by most Americans.

The poll found that Americans want less, not more, immigration. Sixty-seven percent of respondents said immigration should be reduced so those already here are allowed to assimilate.

Furthermore, support for the enforcement-only approach cut across party lines, with 81 percent of Republicans, 72 percent of independents, and 57 percent of Democrats supporting it.

This suggests that the immigration plan the President outlined is not what a majority of Americans want. In fact, it is in direct contrast to what they want. Please pursue an enforcement-only immigration bill.

Cordially,

P.S. After having secured our borders I would support a more diversified guestworker program that includes all peoples of every nationality. Given that there is a long line of people in nations such as Vietnam, Cambodia and those of Africa, I do not believe it is fair to them to only include Mexicans and Central Americans as eligible for the guestworker program. Furthermore, I would be against offering the guestworker program to those already here illegally.
