>> In Boston alone "card" Law was in charge of about 267 priests who were involved with sexual abuse, and what did JPII do ,He promoted this Criminal Homosexual Enabler to a high post in the Vatican with a $ 12,000.00 per month allowance. <<

Wow. Hey, that's just not true at all! Burn whatever book you learned that in!

Cardinal law was not promoted. His current position, pastor of St. Mary's, is one he has had since he became a Cardinal. All Cardinals are given churches in Rome to be pastor of. Since Law's archdiocese was the grand-dame of the nation with by far the most religious of any nation on Earth, he pulled a lulu. Most Cardinals are too busy with their diocese to be at their Roman parish. When he was removed from his primary responsibilities, he was simply freed up to tend to his lesser responsibilities: being pastor of a Roman church.

No action was taken by Pope John Paul II to place Cdl. Law there, since the 1980s. It was not a promotion, but a huge demotion.

Dear dangus,

I'd heard that TC's reputation ("Theological Closet") had been tempered in recent years. However, you'll find that many of Washington's priests didn't go there, anyway.

How do you account for Fr. Cozzens statements in his book that between 30% to 60% of priests crrrently serving in the priesthood are Homosexuals, and these statements are supported by other books.

Dear chatham,

"How do you account for Fr. Cozzens statements in his book that between 30% to 60% of priests crrrently serving in the priesthood are Homosexuals, and these statements are supported by other books."

I don't know what percentage of the priesthood comprises homosexuals. I suspect that Fr. Cozzens' high-end estimates may be exaggerated. However, what does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

We're talking about the response of the hierarchy of the Catholic Church in the United States to the problem of child abuse by priests. It has been demonstrated that the problem did become very severe by the early 1980s, after several decades of increasing severity. You stated falsely that the hierarchy, including Pope John Paul II and then-Cardinal Ratzinger, did nothing.

However, it has been pointed out to you that while they and the bishops did "nothing," the problem declined by 90% in about ten years.

The question of just what percentage of priests are homosexual is a non sequitur in relationship to your assertions that Pope John Paul the Great and then-Cardinal Ratzinger did nothing about child abuse by priests in the United States.

Skylstadt was put in the job under the present Pope Bene XVI.
Read up on what Bene has done about the Leader of the Legionaries of Christ, a Father Dogollado who has been accused of Sexual abuse by nine men who were seminarians under his care.

The allegations are sworn and documented and hand delivered to the vatican by way of Ratzinger and he promised action until he became Pope.

Try listing what JPII did, about sexual abuse on children by homosexual criminal priests, during his reign as Pope.

These people have no right to lead anyone since they were cowards in the face of Evil.

Law is a scummy, self absorbed cretin, enabling Criminal Homosexual Priests under his care to abuse children of his parishes over a long period of time.

He avoids what he deserves , Prison time, and shame on JPII for giving him a free ride and $12,400.00 per month as a stipend. According to God's words he deserves a Millstone around his neck.
Law is a fraud.
How anyone can defend these creeps is beyond comprehension.

>> Law is a scummy, self absorbed cretin, enabling Criminal Homosexual Priests under his care to abuse children of his parishes over a long period of time. <<

I believe you are correct. But his residence in Rome does nothing to hinder any prosecution against him. He is certainly guilty of civil offenses, and has lost lawsuits on that basis. It is unproven whether he is guilty of criminal offenses, and, after much bluster, the Massachusetts Attorney General has declined to pursue charges. The unfortunate truth is that negligence such as what has been established against Law was not illegal in Massachusetts. He may very well be guilty of far more. In fact, I have not seen a competing legal theory other than his guilt. But establishing guilt requires more than bewildering behavior resulting in evil consequences.

>> Law is a fraud. How anyone can defend these creeps is beyond comprehension. <<

If by "these creeps," you refer to Law, I concur that Law is a creep. If by "these creeps," you refer to Ratzinger and Wojtyla, I suggest you hold your tongue. You are not knowledgable to hold such people in contempt. Given John Paul II's fantastic success at putting an end to the rampant pedophilia, your making him out as the bad guy is not justified.

Again, you are wrong. Skylstadt was appointed in 1990. Or if by you mean "his present job," you refer to his status as Chair of the US Council of Catholic Bishops, that is a position which Benedict has no authority over. The USCCB is a quasi-official organization which independently elects its leadership by majority vote, without the approval of the Pope. If anything, such a vote demonstrates just what a challenge Pope Benedict has.

I misspoke , I should have said Levada who was appointed by Bene XVI, and Levada was involved with shifting these criminal priests during his tenure.

Mostly I refer to Law, Egan, Daily, Murphy, McCormack and about 6 or more other Bishops who allowed Criminal Priests to continue to serve even though thjey were aware of credible charges against them.
JPII and Ratzinger were in their Jobs for enough years and had to know what was going on . Check out Bishops Accountability and their references to canon Law on abuse.

Ratzinger was given solid evidence of abuse by Fr. Dogollado, Founder of the Legionaries of Christ and presented by 9 mostly professional men who were seminarians under Dogollado . Ratzinger chose to do nothing.
They have allowed the charges to be tabled and if this is true then they can join the group I refer too.

Take your rebuttal up with the vatican and read "Vows of Silence" by Jason Berry and Gerald Renner.

Our Church would be much healthier without the enablers still in their jobs. and replace them with Wholesome men.

As far as "Santo Sorbito" is concerned, JPII really messed up on the horror of Sexual Abuse.

Synopses & Reviews
Publisher Comments:
Going deep behind the headlines about scandals in the Catholic Church, Jason Berry and Gerald Renner's Vows of Silence follows the staggering trail of evasions and deceit that leads directly to the Vatican — and taints the legacy of Pope John Paul II. Based on more than six years of investigative reporting and hundreds of interviews, this book is a riveting account of Vatican cover-ups and the tumult they have caused in the church worldwide. Both a profound criticism and a wake-up call to reform by two Catholic writers, Vows of Silence reveals an agenda of top-down control under John Paul II and a hierarchy so obsessed with secrecy as to spawn disinformation. Vows of Silence is not a book about sexual abuse; it is a book about abuse of power, throughout the Vatican.
The book cuts between the life story of Father Tom Doyle, who sacrificed a diplomatic career with the Vatican to seek justice for sex-abuse victims, and Father Marcial Maciel, an accused pedophile and founder of the militaristic religious order, the Legion of Christ. One of the most mysterious and powerful men in the Catholic Church, Maciel has built a network of priests, lay people, and elite prep schools in more than twenty countries, using the Legion as a fundraising machine to position himself as a favored figure of John Paul II.

In addition to accusations against Maciel of sexual abuse and of using Legion money for his own extravagant lifestyle, many ex-Legionaries claim that the order uses mind-control techniques to isolate seminarians and even priests from their families. And yet, because he enjoyed the protection of Pope John Paul II and members of the Roman Curia, charges against Maciel for sexual misconduct — all of which he denies — were blocked in the Vatican court system.

Drawing on in-depth interviews with Father Doyle and with ex-Legionaries who filed a canonical suit against Maciel, as well as interviews with Vatican insiders and an array of sources in Mexico, Ireland, Canada, and Australia, the authors provide a penetrating account of a hierarchy directly in conflict with its followers. With keen insight and scrupulous reporting, Vows of Silence is a powerful narrative that chronicles the church's struggle between orthodoxy and reform — going straight to the heart of one of the world's largest power structures.

Vatican restricts ministry of Legionaries priest founder
Move seen as confirmation of sex abuse allegations against Maciel

By John L. Allen Jr.
Rome

Capping a decade-long on-again, off-again investigation of accusations of sexual abuse, the Vatican has asked Fr. Marcial Maciel Degollado, the founder of the Legionaries of Christ, to observe a series of restrictions on his ministry.

In effect, Vatican sources told NCR this week, the action amounts to a finding that at least some of the accusations against the charismatic 86-year-old Mexican priest are well-founded.

Maciel has not been laicized, but the restrictions issued shortly before Easter by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith limit Maciel's public activity, such as his capacity to celebrate public Masses, to give lectures or other public presentations, and to give interviews for print or broadcast.

The restrictions have been approved by Pope Benedict XVI, and the Vatican is expected to issue a brief statement shortly.

Vatican sources stressed that the action against Maciel should not be read as an indictment of the Legionaries of Christ or its lay branch, Regnum Christi.

A spokesman for the Legionaries, asked to comment on the development, replied in an e-mail, "We have nothing to say. We don't know anything about this."

According to sources who spoke to NCR, the congregation's investigation was closed sometime toward the end of 2005. In the early months of 2006, the cardinal members of the congregation in Rome were invited to review the documentation. The decision to impose restrictions was then reached sometime before Easter.

Sources described the documentation collected by the congregation as involving the testimony of at least 20 accusers. The acts in question, according to these sources, reached into the 1980s.

One cardinal who serves on the congregation told NCR that, in his view, the material left little doubt as to the validity of the charges, though he said he was less clear how Maciel understood what he had done. Under canon law, intent and state of mind are sometimes taken into consideration in meting out punishment.

Within the Vatican, the Maciel case has long been seen as particularly sensitive, in part because it could tarnish the reputation of the late John Paul II, who warmly praised and repeatedly honored Maciel. The case could also call into question the action of Benedict XVI, who as prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith stopped the case against Maciel in 1999. However, he reactivated the case in 2004 and ultimately approved the disciplining of Maciel.

A senior Vatican official told NCR that the decisive break came only in late 2004, when a number of additional accusers came forward. Prior to that, he said, both John Paul and then-Cardinal Ratzinger, now Benedict XVI, were operating on the assumption that the charges were not justified.

Maciel becomes perhaps the highest-profile priest in the Catholic church to be disciplined for allegations of sexual abuse.

He has a distinguished Catholic lineage. Two of Maciel's great-uncles were Mexican bishops during the anti-clerical persecutions of the early 20th century. One, Bishop Rafael Guízar Valencia of Veracruz, was beatified by John Paul II in 1995, and a decree recognizing a miracle that clears his path to sainthood was signed by Benedict XVI April 28. Maciel's uncle, Jesús Degollado Guízar, was the last commander-in-chief of the Cristeros army that took up arms in defense of the church

Even when they finally recognise Degollado's guilt the Hierarchy doesn't have the courage to apply proper Judgement and deserving punishment.
This Bum should have been defrocked and put out of the priesthood.

VATICAN: POPE, SILENCE AND PENITENCE FOR FATHER MACIEL
(AGI) - Vatican City, May 19 - 'Taking account both of the advanced age of reverend father Marcial Maciel Degollado as well as his poor health, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, under the leadership of new prefect, Cardinal William Levada, has decided to 'give up on a canonical trial and ask the father to spend his life in prayer and penitence, renouncing all public ministries'. And Pope Ratzinger 'has approved this decision made public today by the Holy See's press office, with a declaration taking account of the validity of the works founded by him. 'Independently of the person of the Founder we recognise with gratitude the apostolic merit of the Legionaries of Christ and the Regnum Christi Associations'. (AGI) -

Not really, the Archdiocese of Charlotte is more like the movie Deliverance in many ways in terms of how they treat "outsiders".
