Military C-130 Transport down in Thailand
Local Thai News | May 16, 2006 | Local Thai News

Posted on 05/16/2006 1:09:20 AM PDT by killjoy

Sorry no link for this. This is breaking right now. I called up the Thai Air Force PJs and they have no information yet.

A military C-130 transport went down in Thailand about 30 minutes ago. The crash is in Sa Kaew province close to the Cambodian border. They are saying on the news that it might be a US C-130. The yearly Cobra Gold joint exercise started yesterday. I will update this thread as I get more information.

It is overcast here in Bangkok but not sure about the weather conditions where the crash took place. We have talked to various friends in the Thai AF and the first they heard about the crash was our phone call. This is leading us to believe it might be a US, Indonesian, or Singapore C-130. Still no additional news.

Local news still doesn't have any hard facts yet. They are reporting that a local villager said he say the plane flying very low and after it passed out of his sight he heard a very loud explosion.

All Thai Air Force C-130s have been accounted for. From what my contacts have told me, Thailand is still trying to figure out who's responsibility it is to go do the search for the plane. Typical...

There is finally a Thai News link up at:

http://www.innnews.co.th/local.php?nid=3111

In summary, it says the crash took place in Sa Keaw province in the mountains. The forestry service is trying to get to the crash site but it will take about three hours to get there.

The TV news has reported the US is saying that all US aircraft are accounted for, although there are rumors going around that it might be American. No additional news yet.

Here's a report in English.

C-130 plane crashes in Thailand during military exercises

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

16/5/2006 17:19 A C-130 military plane of United States crashed in central Thailand today when the joint military exercises code name "Cobra Gold 2006" were held, a military source told Xinhua.

The source said local villagers saw the plane crashed into the ground and disappeared in the forest in central province of Sa Kaeo. Thai military then checked the navy flight team and concluded it could be an US military aircraft attending the Cobra Gold 2006.

The military rescue team have rushed to the scene, and more details are awaiting investigation.

An official at the US Embassy in Thailand said that the embassy is now inspecting the facticity of the report.

I was a USMC KC-130 Loadmaster with 2nd and 4th MAW. I know unit I was attached to has participated in Cobra Gold in the past.

Anymore word on this?

Here is the latest from one of the local English language papers:

http://www.nationmultimedia.com/breakingnews/read.php?newsid=30004153

US C-130 plane disappears from radar

Sa Kaew - Police are exploring an area of thick forests in this central province for a C-130 plane of the US military after it disappeared from the radar screen in the morning.

Pol Lt Col Pisanu Pengduan said he was informed that the plane could not be accounted for while it was participating in the US-Thai military exercise or Cobra Gold.

Flight Lt Anurak Meepian, an official of a military radar station, said a C-130 plane of the US military left Nakhon Ratchaisma heading to U Tapao naval base in Chon Buri in the morning and simply disappeared from the radar screen.

He said as of 4:50 pm the plane could not be accounted for yet.
