[history]
I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.
Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.

I've got a few problems with what he proposed. But, there was much that I liked. So, at least I can disagree with specific points of his plan.
It's a start.

Bush has just repeated what he has been supporting for some time. Why do you agree with him this time?

Reagan would be very proud of our President tonight. I am certain that looking down right now from his heavenly reward, he is.

Yes that's a good debate! Advances the discussion! Got any real data or a valid argument? Speech stinks and is just window dressing. He is distracting the weak minded like yourself who don't realize that your job is next and when they rape and/or kill your women don't cry to me. If you have kids are they hooked on Mexican illegal drugs yet?

Well there we have it.
I expect the NG to get into "full" deployment about the 1st of October, just in time for photo op deployments, lots of dog & pony news clips.
I'm skeptical but we shall see what transpires. If they pass Hagel/Martinez & get it past the conference comittee, we're dead as a soverign nation.
I'd say the word down south will be "Get in NOW!"
I refuse to be upset, it's 24 night.

I just finished watching this speech.
This is an amnesty. Pure and simple.
And a lot of meaningless platitudes.
In short, I heard nothing that alters my point of view.
I will not support any politician who votes in favor of this proposal.

I believe that too... but unless he called for every illegal to be frogmarched back across the border, there are some who were not going to be satisfied.

Sorry George. A wee bit short on substance. You said nothing controversial and wussed out. "Not for amnesty = no new taxes"

I am not upset with this speech, I think this is reasonable, and I think this is very important. What the democrats have taught us is incrementalism works. He has made a solid foray with good conservative steps with compromise being on our terms, not theirs. I think this is a home run. Triple -- at least.

He did not define "THE MIDDLE GROUND" between amnesty and mass deportation.
That's what I was interesting in having him spell out. From my perspective, good speech... get ready for millions of socialist voting mexicans.
