I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.
Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.
Jim
I waited till this morning to comment on President's Bush's speech last night regarding a subject that I had been very passionate about.
Just as others before me who were passionate about other issues, Meirs, Dubai. This has been an issue that has brought out many strong emotions for many.
I was very pleased with the President's response and speech
regarding this emotional issue. Not that my little reaction to our President's speech matters but I would like to go on record that I found this speech truly inspirational, I found his speech and the solutions he presented to calm my fears about the future of this country and quite frankly the future of the Republican party. Because when I heard Specter/Mccain say that they were siding with a liberal I and many of us felt betrayed.
I believe the President took the sting out of the rhetoric of Specter on the Specter/Mccain/kennedy bill regarding this critical issue, as securing our border is in the best interest of this nation.
Our precious Troops are fighting for this great Nation to keep it secure we cannot allow this constant breaking in of our country thru our own borders.
I resent that I am paying taxes to support lawless people who broke into this great country, by all the welfare benefits they receive. I guess basically what am I saying is to see the defiant marchers wave another country's flags almost weekly by the millions on our streets angered me beyond reason.
There was so much to anger every one of us who love this country and our party, who had it smacked in our faces daily by the very people who broke in to this country.
What country could survive that did not enforce laws? What country could survive with open borders and employers who pay the people under the table ignoring laws.
However we noticed there were those that used this critical issue to further their sick agendas and those of us who realized they were not passionate about a serious issue who were quite frankly kooks that were making us look bad angered us and we denounced them on several threads. And we asked that they quit hijacking the threads with their sick posts and agenda's.
Anyway, thanks to all who listened and allowed me to comment on a issue that I feel strongly about, I support our President and his solutions for a issue that is a serious one
and hope that Congress will follow suit and pass strong border control and as our President said no amnesty and no catch and release, he has given us all HOPE again, it was a bullhorn moment for us. And to all if I commented in any way as to insult anyone I apologize it was not my intent.
Thank you for your very thoughtful post, stopem.
Immigration is a problem that needs to be solved, there is no doubt, and it's been the heated rhetoric on this forum that has been most disturbing. I too thought the president presented a thoughtful plan that will do more to address the problem than anyone has presented thus far.
Please tell me why anything has to get through congress?????? Whats wrong with the laws on the books NOW!
You're welcome.
exaggerate???? Since when?
Overthrow Mexico??? When did I post pictures of someone desiring to overthrow Mexico?? Unless you are talking about those who want to overrun the SW US and take it FOR Mexico...
Thanks for the reply, but you miss my point, entirely. I diminish the importance of neither illegal immigration nor the toothless proposals of self-serving professional pols to our sovereignty and national security. In its zeal for doctrinal purity, instant gratification--and, frankly, a measure of muscle-flexing and self-satisfying payback--a certain subset of the Right fails to see that the surest way to success in this case is not a straight line--the surest way to failure is. The proposed 'reform' legislation of today will seem benignly quaint if the clintons retake the White House in '08. It is time for a reality check, people.... |
Obvioulsy Bush's obvious statements went over your head...as well as my statement.
I remember posting on that thread something to the tune of "Something is wrong with the world today. I agree with Chuck Shumer".
Whenever that happens, I assume he is merely posturing for the cameras. It helps me sleep better at night.
Enjoy your fantasies and remember what harm they could do to our country, and the civilized world.
I agree that whatever we finally do, those Mexicans are valuable in the sight of God and should be treated compassionately and humanely...even if the final decision is deportation.
I also think that any illegal who has long-established ties-- sons, daughters, grandkids -- in this country should be treated with great forebearance.
The correct answer is to close the border and then deal with those who are here on a case by case basis.
Bet this raises his poll numbers too.
I would say no one can argue against his solutions but unfortunately reading some of the posts......guess I will quit reading THOSE threads and bask in this good feeling for a while......
My husband is relieved I have calmed down :)
He tried, dear man, to calm me for a few weeks now and he tried to make me promise I would not post any negativity.
Now I can keep that promise from this day forward. ;)
LOL. You have a good husband.
Anyway, Democrats are the ones who quit and run; real Republicans don't do that, although you'd never know it reading some posts.
I loved this post by Jim Robinson the other day:
Well, if they're fleeing, they're obviously not "hard core Republicans." Probably never were. Hard core Republicans do not cut and run.
