President's Immigration speech - Live thread

Edited on 05/15/2006 4:38:26 PM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.

Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.

Well, none of mine is.

I'm assuming that we live in different towns.

Resisting the wall doesn't make sense. The BorderBots want it so badly, and it's not very expensive. It might just work very, very well, as Israel's wall has worked. So, why all the resistance?

Simply because "it might just work very, very well"

Good to see you again, FRiend!

TV News here in Houston did a little squib about baby names - the most popular boys' names in the US in 2005, for example:

1 Jacob
2 Michael
3 Joshua
4 Matthew
5 Ethan
6 Andrew
7 Daniel
8 Anthony
9 Christopher
10 Joseph
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
>>>However, they wanted to note that the most popular boys' name in TEXAS in 2005:
1 Jose
"You have the pulse of the Border-bots."
I tend to see power and threat where it really is, not where I wish it to be.
Tonight I began to see that the Democrats way out of Hillary hell is Governor Bill Richardson. He is going to be tough for a divided Republican party to beat.
The perfect storm is upon the GOP.
And President Halsey steamed into it at flank speed.
It's unfortunate, but there we are.
So, let me ask you: are you going to vote GOP this Fall, stay home, vote third party, or don't you know yet?
I wrestle every election with whether to vote for pro-abortion liberal Republicans as a caucus vote, or to just stay home. I haven't seen a third party I liked ever. I did like Ross Perot in 1992, but not in 1996. In the past I've always shlepped to the polls and voted for the liberal Republican. Probably will again this year.
Admittedly, I don't know much about Fairfield County, Connecticut. However, my response was to a poster who is a native of Connecticut who argued about how important the work of illegal aliens was in several businesses, such as child care and lawn service. Fairfield County and suburban New Haven and Hartford are notorious as limousine liberal and country club Republican territory. The upper income suburbs of the Northern cities are the stronghold of RINOs.
I have nothing against Fairfield County per se. Had the poster been from Illinois, I would have said the same thing about the North Shore suburbs, for example.
In the 2004 Presidential Election, Bush got 44% of the Hispanic vote, to 53% for Kerry.
Hardly "overwhelming".
I don't doubt that Reconquesta is real, but the article was unconvincing about it gaining traction.
What I heard was a lot of voices on the fringe.
If you can prove that the Mexican immigrant on the street - the person who is not a politician or organizer - believes in this, then I'll take it more seriously.
And I had to chuckle - she said "We are at war with Islamofascism." Well, that killed her credibility. These people are not Islamofascists. I believe they are overwhelmingly Catholic. Trying to connect them with the people we really are at war with is a cheap shot.
"Good plan. I'll even go one further....if we close the border, fine the employers,"
I'll go even further!
Declare hunting season, bag illegals and EAT them!
The Tancredo comments are from earlier today, in a statement *prior to* the speech. The other link is from November 2005, I think.
Not as amazing as your citing the Southern Poverty Law Center and Morris Dees as god's honest truth.
Yikes!
I'm getting depressed reading a lot of the posts tonight. Too many are not looking at the overall picture of this issue and I don't know if it's because they live is a 'safe' area, emply illegals or, worse, really don't care. Do you really have to live in a border state to see the problem?
If I say so myself, those who call for closing the borders and not allowing any immigration frankly need to get a heart. These people are desperate to get here.
Hey I want a better life too! Does this give me the right to break into the big ritzy house up on the hill and stay for as long as I like no matter what the occupants think?
Those numbers are in dispute and most accept that the number for bush was in the mid to low 30s.
